Good call. There was corrosion on the cable and the contacts to the alternator. Cleaned it up and problem resolved. Thanks.

Smoke started coming out from under the hood. The red rubber thing on the positive battery post was melting. I positioned the battery to make sure it was not grounding to the body. Drove for awhile and rechecked the situation. The cables going to the positive battery post were too hot to...

You are probably correct. That is why I am not seeking to remove all the tension. Just to ease it up a little so it remains controllable but not as tiring as it is now. That was no flame. Look at some of the other responses. I am learning you need a thick skin in this forum.

I don't think those photos apply to an S197. Correct me if I am wrong.

As I read it, people were bending the tabs to eliminate the "top slop" that some had on their gas pedals. That had nothing to do with the amount of force needed to depress the pedal.
