Does the car do a one wheel or two wheel burnout?
Can you contact the previous owner to ask what was done to the rear axle? Is it a stock 7.5 with a Traction-Lok added with lower gears? Or an 8.8 from a GT?
If the gears weren’t done correctly they can be very noisy whether it’s a 7.5 or 8.8 rear...
I’d strongly suggest a fluid and filter change, not a flush. A flush is risky. You can do multiple fluid changes over a few months if the old stuff is particularly dirty.
And I’d recommend the OEM fluid, Motorcraft MERCON V ATF, as per the owner’s manual.
Stick with OEM for everything if possible.
You could start with a tune, CAI, and gears. Get an 8.8 swapped in with 3.73 gears and it’ll be a whole lot more fun! You can also buy a Vortech or ProCharger kit that can give you more power than a stock 4.6 3v V8.
I understand the attachment for your Mustang and that’s why I supercharged my...
I’m in Mooresville, just north of Charlotte. I had to pass CA smog one last time so that’s why I had the CARB legal 3.0 pulley kit. I’m thinking that was the weakest X-Charger kit ever made with losing PSI boost to the intercooler. I moved to NC a year later and upgraded to the 2.6 pulley.
Yep, that’s what I did, too! Met in the police station parking lot to sell the car. It should also make the buyer a whole lot more comfortable with a bunch of cash.
I also set up a Google phone number so I never had to publish or reveal my real phone number. It seems like the Craigslist...
Ford DOES say to change the automatic transmission fluid and filter at 150k miles. That does not mean a flush, though.
Just plug in 150,000 here on the form along with maybe 50 Miles per Day and Normal Driving. Then select GT and Automatic Transmission (the 5R55S is the same for the GT and V6...
The only CARB legal forced induction options ever offered for the 4.0 were the Vortech and the X-Charger. The owners of Explorer Express retired and closed up shop after producing their limited run of 300 X-Chargers. So now the Vortech is the only choice.
I’d strongly recommend getting lower gears installed so you can really enjoy the 8.8 upgrade. The gears make a big difference! I have 3.73s on my 4.0 and it’s a great all around gear. Others recommend 4.10s if you don’t mind the higher RPMs on the interstate.
