My car is a 2014 auto 5.0 with a gen2 tvs and stock converter. Best pass to date is 10.70 @ 130 in +2700ish da running ms109 fuel and a 85mm pulley. I have a 82mm ready to go on and a converter on the way. Once the converter and pulley have been added the plan is it to get the shiftpoints dialed in on 93 octane and once there good I will remove as much weight as possilbe (remove passenger and rear seat and borrow some skinnies, guessing around 100 pounds lost), pick up some race gas, and then wait for the good da to get here lol.

So my question is, is it realistic to think it will run low 10's or possibly break into the 9's with those mods or am I going to be disappointed?

Its possible if the track is there.

Why race gas instead of e85? Not enough pump?

Realisticly I doubt it. The converter won't buy you much, and 85 to 82mm is not a huge jump. Your biggest win will come from the weight reduction so it kind of depends on how light you can get it.

I only know of a single car to go 9.99 with an 82mm and it was drinking e85.

Now drop to a 72mm on race gas and you have a much better shot. You'll pickup around 2.5lbs of boost over the 82mm and other cars have gone bottom tens full weight with that setup, and with your weight reduction could push you over the edge.

I went 10.24 at 3900lbs race weight on a 75mm and e85, hitting the limiter on the 2-3. DA was about +500-1000 that day.

I would rethink the converter since it's a TVS. It really won't help much in this situation. The only way I think you'll hit 9's is with a smaller pulley. Still a mid 10 second car is no slouch.

The current best 60' was a 1.59, yall don't think a converter would improve that?

3900lbs race weight, stock converter, stock drive shaft, stock 3.15 gears, stock exhaust manifolds, stock suspension and my TVS car did the following:

82mm Stock Airbox, 93+Torco 275/50-15s: 1.52 60 (10.5s)
79mm Stock Airbox, 93+Torco 275/50-15s: 1.51 60 (10.5s)
79mm JLT123mm, MS109, 275/60-15s: 1.51 60 (10.39)
75mm JLT123mm, E85, 275/60-15s: 1.50 60 (10.24)

I believe there is room in your 60 without the converter. I don't think I was making exceptional power on the stock motor, the simple combo just works well. Those aren't just single hit bests, but averages. How is the prep at your track? Also, if you can run in sub 1000DA conditions you will pickup about a free tenth with no changes to your current combo.

I ran the MT ET Street Radials in two different sizes over the years so far, and only now going to try the Pro radial as a band-aid since I'm making too much power for the stock suspension to hold the regular MT DRs.

One last thing, you have a cat delete of some sort right?

E85 is not local to me, roughly 30 miles in any direction to find the nearest station that sells it.

I have long tubes and offroad x along with rear bolt on suspension and the front swaybar removed, weighed a shade over 3800 with me in it before the swaybar removal. The reason I chose the converter over adding power is because I don't feel comfortable just throwing power at the stock motor when there is an alternative that could get me there without adding any power. The cost of a converter vs injectors/boostapump is pretty much equal, with the advantage of the converter being engine safety. Late in the racing season it is very common to get da less than 1000 with the occasional negative da.

At this point it's pretty much a guessing game full of ricer math lol. My way of thinking is I should gain roughly 2-3 tenths for the lower da, 1-3 tenths for the expected improvement in the 60', and maybe a tenth for the smaller pulley and free weight reduction. Honestly I don't think it will break 9's either but I think a low 10 should be very realistic.

Converter is installed and now just waiting on a tune. If all goes well I plan on going to the track Friday night, I don't expect the et to be all the great giving the predicted weather and I'm sure the shift points will be off but hopefully the 60' will show a big improvement.

Waiting on info. I am at at toss up on doing a converter. 1.71 is the best 60ft i can muster out of my car with a stage 3 82mm kit. Dead hooking or letting it spin a little. Just bought a 79mm pulley to see if that will help.

Working with a similar car. Engine all stock other than the roush kit with 82mm. It's got a 2C 245mm and a 3.08 axle, some decent suspension parts, and on a 30x10.5 radial tire.
Best is 1.49, 10.18@138. I really think it should sixty in the 1.3s and it isn't liking that converter much. Plan is to go to one of the stock converters that circle D modifies, and also I have some ideas for the calibration to hopefully get the converter locked sooner. Hopefully those 2 things will get that 9 second slip. Going to change to a 2.73 gear sometime, not sure how that will affect it, but it is really wound tight in 3rd now and I don't want another shift.

Best pass:

Hope to report back on Friday but now they're predicting a small chance of rain.

What does that car weigh? Seems like big mph for the pulley and da.

Still heavy, a bit over 3500 with driver. It's got a big ice tank in the trunk and a mild steel roll bar from Waston. Only things taking weight off are tube bumpers, dumped exhaust, seats, removed evap, front brakes, tube rad support, wheels/tires.

Mine weighed a little over 3800 with me in it before removing the front swaybar, I'd guess upper 3700 now. Once the shifts are close I should be able to lose about 100 pounds pretty easy by removing seats and adding skinnies.

What type of fuel is that car running?
