Anybody have to trim these fours "ears" off to get an aftermarket oil pan to sit flush? In this case it's a canton 13-784 A . I trimmed them on the old gasket, but before I trim the new one I want to make sure .

Depending on the pan (or if using two on a windage tray sandwich), yes. I've used a simple pair of wire cutters to remove them by carefully cutting them off flush.

Thanks for the reply guys, another stupid question:

The oil temp sensor that I took out of the old pan is obviously not a 1/2" NPT which is the bung size on the Canton pan... do I plug that and then drill and tap for the sensor thread size or should I just get rid of the temp sensor ?

I would probably just delete it and cap it personally but shouldn't be hard to do either way.
