Hey all first time poster here. Picked up myself an 07 GT convertible and so far loving it. Only complaint I have is the shifting is a bit on the hard side. Nothing to crazy I suppose but definitely different than my 04 expedition. Anyway my question is the servo issue... Did some research and it seems it's a common issue. Question I have is, is it possible to change while it's still in the car or does it have to be pulled? Thanks in advance and look forward to scanning these forums and chatting with yall.

What exactly are you replacing? It might take two pairs of hands to do it in the car. Don't know if there is enough room to drill out and replace new sleeves in the bore. But the servo bores are underneath the two round circles on the side of the tranny. So if you can reach and remove the covers You may be able to do it. Personally I would just pull it. And then can adjust the bands and do a good job on the servo bores. The sleeves are a wear part and a weak point in these trannies so changing out to new durable ones require a jig and room to drill out the casing to accept the new sleeves. Sure you can just change out the actual servo but it's probably the sleeves that are worn.

Ap316 I've got the very same issue, so please update us on what you did and if you were able to solve the problem.

Is the car completely stock, or does it have a tune in it. The trans shifts are all controlled but the computer.

Earl is you're commenting to me my 07 GT has a tune, but it does the same hard shifting even if I put the 93 tune out and go back to stock tune. I'm thinking its the servo problem that all these have. So I guess my only choice is to drive it til it breaks then out a re build 5R in a bulletproof one

I've been experiencing some issues with my 2010 5r55 but due to overheating from running on the track. I've added both trans and engine cooling upgrades but still overheats and goes into limp mode and shifts itself into overdrive. I contacted Monster transmission to pick their brains and I've pretty much done all I can with it and they recommend going to the newer 6 speed. From what I've found there is no such thing as a bulletproof 5R55, it's a weak trans and I would not recommend spending the money to upgrade it.

Have you tried a deeper pan? adding volume to the fluid will disperse more heat. Also, does the extra tranny cooling have it's own fan?

And yes they are a weak unit but they can be modified to run pretty decent up to about 500 ftlbs. I know, I'm on my third. But I believe I finally have the performance and peace of mind that it is built right. Even my bulletproof Level 10 didn't hold up. The guy who built mine gave me a 30K/3yr warranty knowing Full well I was going to be launching it on slicks and running double digit boost, and abusing the shit out of it.

I have the Performance Automatic deeper pan, JDM Engineering Overflow Catch Can, and a B&M Racing 20,500 btu cooler on it.
I had a Mishimoto cooler w/fan prior to the B&M and that did not work either. Mounting it in front of radiator caused negative backpressure on my radiator so was not cooling engine properly. Pulling that and replacing with the B&M as well as some added ducting solved that issue. Also have Roush 7 bar upper grille.

I have also added a Fluidyne Triple Flow Triple Pass Radiator and the same GT500 Heat Exchanger w/dual fans, as well as MMD hood vents try to keep engine cooler as well as its Roushcharged. I have no problem with engine temps but when I run track days my trans still overheats to 210*-230* and starts shifting itself into overdrive. The guys at Monster told me even If I changed to one of their upgraded 5r55 trans, I'd probably still overheat it and eventually have the same problem again. They recommend upgrading to the newer 6 speed.

I have a different bumper but if I race this car again I am going to put a trans cooler in place of the windshield reservoir. i will divert air from the lower side opening. I f you get down far enough you can actually see the bottle back there.

Sorry I can't post pics but my B&M cooler is mounted directly in front of my radiator, in the upper right hand corner of the radiator.
That is basically the only area I have to mount it because of the heat exchanger and radiator plumbing. My mechanic made a bracket to locate it there. I had the Mishimoto w/fan mounted centered on top similarly, but according to Fluidyne that fan was creating negative backpressure for the radiator so was causing engine not to cool properly. Replaced that with the B&M cooler as well as some shrouding around radiator edges and engine cooling issue was resolved. My trans cooler is getting plenty of air and I thought about putting the trans cooler in the rear somewhere, similar to what Corvettes do, but then you have all that additional plumbing and that gets to be an issue as well. Can the trans push the fluid that far? I have the Roush 7 bar upper grill as well as Roush lower fascia to let more air in, as well as MMD hood vents to get the hot air out from under the hood.

In speaking with the guys at Monster I've done about all I can with this. The 5r55 is a weak trans and probably one of Ford's worst. Even if I rebuild my current one chances are very likely I will run into the same problems down the road. Being I track my car they recommend going to the 6 speed.
If you are not going to put your car on the track then the 5r55 will probably work fine for you.

I require an automatic as I'm paraplegic and drive with hand controls.
