Back in an S197 after a hiatus! Picked up a 14 Cali Special vert in Sterling Silver. Ordered a set of AXE Lenso EX12 wheels 20x9 and 20x10.5 I'm planning to run Kumho SP91 or Pzero tires in 255/35-20 and 295/30-20 sizes. The aspect ratio puts both the front are rear at 27" tall. I know the 295/30-20 is a limited size. But the aspect ratio is perfect and I know a 305 will stick out past the quarter panel. The car is lowered, and I want the rear tire to be flush with the quarter panel. Anyone running a 295/30-20 on the rear of an S197?

how the tire fits in the well relative to the fender has more to do with the BS and offset than the tire size

The rear is 10.5" wide with a 40mm offset versus the stock wheel 9" wide with a 48mm offset. This change translates to the new 10.5" wheel being 27mm (~1") closer towards the quarter panel. Looks about perfect to be flush with the quarter panel. I'm just not sure how much more a 295 tire stick out past the wheel, if any.

I have 295/35/20 (28") on 20x10 with ET48 and lowered about 2"

No rubbing at all once I got my rear end centered up.

I have 20x10.5 ET45 wheels are all four corners with 295/30/20 Michelin PSS in back (285/30 up front). The PSS is a WIDE tire, 11.5" tread width - which is much wider than most. It is a very close fit on my lowered Boss, but with my panhard dead centered, it does not rub. I had 305/30/20 PSS for a brief while, and they were 11.8" wide treadwidth and that small difference in width caused rubbing on both sides.

Can tell you first hand after just going through this that a 10.5rim with 7.16" BS +45mm offset fits well even with a 305/30/20 on the back. The tread is inside the wheel well with just a bit of sidewall sitting past the fender. 10.5" is the minimum specification Nitto recommends for their 555G2 305/30/20. 305/30's are a 1/2" wider and about .25" taller coming in at 27.2" using a standard tire size calculator.

The 295 would likely be the better fitment since your offset will sit out slightly further on this wheel than a +45mm offset as a rule.

I have learned that it pays to buy quality wheels BTW. I went from running AR razors on an 18" setup to running Vossen's on a 20" setup and the ride is as good if not better than being on the 18's which actually surprised me.

I'd really like to stuff a 305 on this wheel. But it appears the 40mm offset is going to limit me to a 295.

Yes it likely will stick out about 5mm or so, but then again you may get away with it. BTW the wider you go on rear tires the more crucial the panhard bar center alignment becomes on lowered cars...even one inch.

Good luck.

I've got 305's on a 10" wheel, and their isn't really much poke to speak of past the wheelwell. I debated this too, and everybody said 305, the 295 would look too small, I'm glad I went with the popular opinion.

What is the offset of the 10" wheel your using? Any pics of the 305 on the 10" wheel?

here's 305's on a 10.5' which is the minimum width recommended by Nitto for a 305/ 30/20. 10.5x+45mm offset

The 305 tire and wheel combo looks perfect on your car!

Not sure I can get away with another 5mm further out with the AXE wheel and a 305 tire though. The wheels arrive tomorrow so I'll bolt one on and do some measuring.

Still haven;t got the front springs and struts installed yet but they're in the basement waiting to go on. Will lower the front 1" more. Wheels and stripes are charcoal gray. Hard to see in the second photo.

New wheels mounted and on the car. Ended up with a 285/30-20 NT555 G2 on the rear.
