Back from the Ashes: Paul Roberts 2007 Mustang GT

You know I have come to realize that some of the best cars on this forum have been crashed and wrecked, and then rebuilt. And when their owners pull said cars from the ashes, they come out of the fire much better then before. You know what they say, that which does not kill you, makes you stronger. Take Paul's 2007 Mustang GT. It doesn't look like a 2007 GT, it looks like a 2013 GT 500 with an aftermarket hood, right? Lets take a closer look at Paul's creation.

But first, a little history. About 1 year ago, Paul decided to take the car to Sebring for a few laps. Towards the end of the day, in turn 16, Paul's luck ran out. He hit the wall. Paul was ok, and luckily Paul also had track insurance, which lessened the sting quite a bit and helped him with the rebuild. Paul even has a video of the crash, and a rebuild thread that you can check out here: http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=105305&highlight=chapter

There is no denying that one of the best things about the rebuild of this car is the front end. That just by itself was an entire project, as Paul had to basically build some one off front fenders for it to work. But the whole car just looks amazing, especially with the Air Lift suspension and the awesome paint job. But, there is so much more to this car then just a nice exterior.

Paul's car mods go much further then just skin deep. Under the hood resides a 298 cid stroker motor with 9.5 : 1 compression, Manley pistons and connecting rods, and a Kellogg crank. A completely custom 67 MM Comp ball bearing turbo setup with a 46mm Precision waste gate provides the boost. The engine also has comp 127300 cams, a C&L intake, ATI damper, GT500 pumps, and a host of other supporting mods (see mod list below). He has not had this new set up dyno'd yet. The previous motor with the same turbo, but with less compression, made 670rwhp on the dyno at 16psi.

^^^like many of us, Paul did a lot of the work in his garage.

MayCOTM11.jpg~original

^^^While 670+rwhp is nice, remember Paul tracks this car, so just as important is handling and braking. Paul went with suspension parts from BMR and Eibach, brake rotors/pads from Stoptech, and the AirLift suspension system.

^^^ Everything about this car is top notch, yet not over done. The interior has carbon fiber trim pieces, 3 gauge pod on the A-pillar with dual Aeroforce gauges and a wideband, and nice sound system. The MGW shifter hints at what lurks below, the TR6060 transmission.

^^^This car looks good from every angle.

^^^This rebuild came out very nice, and the car has truly come out stronger then before. From the one off front fenders to the work done on the custom turbo setup and exhaust, Paul has really created an awesome, one of a kind mustang from his own garage. "Built not bought" is his motto, and now you know why.

Congrats Paul. About time your car got selected. The sheer amount of work and attention to detail you've put into that car cannot be measured.
