Had to spend the morning waiting at the GF's place for the window company to come and warranty-replace one of the window sashes here.

Afternoon spent at the new house though.

Removed the old light sconce by the garage entrance, and removed the wiring that went to it.
Realized the wiring was too short to be re-used for the new light's new location, above the center door, had to run to Home Depot for new wiring.

But got the new LED light installed alright, and I love this thing.

"Defiant"-brand, apparently only available at Home Depot.

I'll have to replace 2 little siding pieces where the old light used to be, but for now, I used Great Stuff expanding-foam crack/gap filler in the old hole, the new hole, and behind the new light base (supposed to caulk around the base, didn't have any with me, will do that tomorrow).

Also filled-in with rocks and then pre-mixed cement, the hole in the garage floor and the 2 holes in the basement floor. Still not sure why these holes were there, but they're history now

Holy cow that guy with the saw is kinda scary! Hopefully he manages to get them all down without any accidents. Better lucky than good!

LMAO .... pretty much my brother-in-law ... GF's sister's husband. Fearless. A contractor by trade. Took down 3 trees today and limbed 2 others.

NO accidents, lol

I think it is. New insulation will be installed, along with all new cement board all around. Will also do waterproofing membrane all around.

Today the tree removal project continued, and I got rid of the old fridge for $50.
Got the remainder of the trees right next to the driveway taken down, along with 2 small ones on the other side of the house.

Love being able to see the house without trees in the way.

Sucks I have a huge pile of brush to get rid of, but it is what it is.

I think I prefer the privacy afforded by the trees, but I accept the fact that not everybody feels that way. It is definitely opened up now.

The awesome thing about the house location is that no other house is closer than at least 100 feet, and I'm probably on the low side of that estimate.

Across the street there's just land, basically the side/back yard of the neighbor "across the street" ... and there are trees in-between the side neighbors, so there's plenty of privacy, unless you're actually on the street in front of the house.
And if you are, you now get a much better view of the house.
A house that will soon look a lot better :)

Bought my first chainsaw today, a Jonsered CS2245, bought pre-mixed oil/ethanol-free fuel, and bar/chain oil.
Also had the electrician over for a look around, planning the new electrical panel, location of the generator, and other electrical changes/upgrades.
Also got town permits for the landfill, to bring stuff over.

No actual work done though :(

I was planning on having work done on the Tundra this morning, ended up rescheduling it (had to order more parts), and did all this running around instead.

Also looked at a snow blower, a Husqvarna ST324P ... a really cool blower which I will most likely buy very soon. At $1399 they had a good price on it, a quick Google search saw prices in the $1450-1500 range

Actually got to use the new chainsaw today.
Had a great time with it, cutting up a lot of the branches and some of the tree trunks we took down a couple days ago.

I also put together the new "garden supply cart" that my girlfriend bought, and while I did laugh at this thing a bunch, for being a pretty little red wagon, it held its own very well, with some heavy tree-trunk pieces that we had to move.

Speaking of the GF, her and I spent a few hours today cleaning up part of the huge pile of brush that we had created onto the front lawn.
We got about half of it moved, and a street-over neighbor has been coming by the last 3 days and taking the wood he can burn, cutting up the larger pieces and taking it away.

Didn't get a chance to take any pictures as it got dark quickly, and we kept working till I had to finish sweeping at light from the truck's headlights.

On a side note, does anybody know an easier way to remove floor tile?
The bathroom tile is in many pieces and it's stubborn ... feels like it's gonna take weeks to get it all removed

For tile removal you can try one of these for cheap or you can rent an electric scraper from a rental shop. Similar to a jackhammer but it has a flat blade.

Thanks Brian.
Bought that thing this morning, girlfriend tried it, she said it helps a lot, but it's hard to get leverage with it in the tight confines of the bathroom.

I'll get to play with it tomorrow or the next day, I still have a lot of yard work to clean up from the tree cutting project.

Today we took down 7 more trees, including 2 very thin ones, approx 3" diameter, about 20' long

I got to play with my chainsaw again, I took down the last of 3 good-sized trees, approx 1 foot diameter

I asked for a wheelbarrow, we got this:

That's right, fuck with me, I cut your head off with a chainsaw

Me in action:

2014-12-21_mechainsaw6_zps5c808b6e.jpg

Over the next 4 pictures this tree gets cut and pulled across the lawn.
My bro-in-law doing the cutting, me doing the pulling:

2014-12-21_tree-removal4_zps0e982ff3.jpg

Pile on the left side of the front lawn now much smaller, pile in the back behind the driveway getting much bigger:

2014-12-21_tree-removal5_zpsb5854b90.jpg

Trees on the right side of the house now cut down (at least the ones that we planned on cutting down), and another large pile of brush getting generated on the right side of the front lawn:

2014-12-21_tree-removal7_zps83d37f04.jpg

And that's where I left it for today.
Cleaned the debris from the street, emptied the "gardener's supply cart", put everything away and left.

Tomorrow the water radon mitigation equipment is getting installed.

I'll be spending a lot of time moving brush piles around, trying to get the front lawn emptied out ... fun stuff ... my back is sore and I almost fell asleep twice just now, editing pictures, lol

Loving the progress Gabe!

Thanks Cam ... a long way to go, but the trees had to be taken care of quickly ... it opened up the look of the house tremendously ... I love it.

Just need to clean up all the debris in front of the house now :/

Can you make a fire pit somewhere? You'd be surprised how soon green brush and limb wood will burn after cutting.

That's kinda the plan.
And apparently as soon as there's snow on the ground there's no need for a fire permit, so we can just get a big bonfire going :)

Good thing we've got a large backyard:
