I have a 68 Ford truck that I've swapped a 2005 4.6 3v into. I just ordered a CompCams camshafts 127500 stage 2 cams. I understand the importance of limiting the cam phase and valve spring pressure increase needed with these cams but I'm looking for a less expensive alternate if possible. The Comp brand 125 valve springs and phase limiters seems kinda expensive. This wouldn't normally be a issue but the past year I have dropped alot of coin into this thing. I guess this is a 2 part question,
1. Is their a brand with quality but less expensive?
2. Can I install the cams and phaser limiters and skip the valve spring for a short time as long as I keep the rpms on the low side?
BTW, here's a little about the truck. The chassis is either boxed or triangulation where it's not boxed, Nascar rear trailing arms, CV front, coilovers all around, fuel tank and battery relocated to extreme aft, TR3650 remote shifter very modified, braided ss brake lines. Weights 3600lbs.
Frontend 1800 lbs:)
I haven't driven it except unloading on and off the trailer so far but I did Rev it up and drop the clutch once. The entire truck lifts and lunges fwd. Very little wheel spin.
Thank in advance for any help.

I wouldn't install those came without upgraded springs. If you don't want to upgrade the springs, get of set of comp nsr cams or thumprs.

Major negative on using the stock 3v springs with the Comp 500's ... max lift for the stock springs is .500" after that they go into coil bind ..

I've used he Trick Flow TFS-15410-24 ... it's is an economical spring for $200 as it re-uses the stock 3v retainers where you need the Comp retainers for the 500's.

Livernois makes a 3v limiter for $120 , BBR has lockouts for 40.

Nice job on using the 3v in your truck rather than going to the dark side and using an LSx ...

It's not that I don't want to upgrade springs. I do.
If sound was the only importance, I would have bought nsr cams. I was only asking would stock springs work for a short time until I saved up for matching springs. Oviously it's not a good idea so I'm not going to install the cams without upgrading springs. I'm looking at the Trick Flow 16213 springs.
I've already order Comp phaser limiters.
So, the 16213 springs should be okay?

Seeing as how you'll have the valve covers open, it would make sense to do the springs at the same time. NSR cams aren't totally worthless either though. My car with FRPP Hot Rod cams made 340 wheel when it was NA. Seeing as how full bolt on 3v's make 300-310ish whp, the cams are doing more than producing sound.

I don't think they are worthless either. You have very impressive numbers there.

I bought Comp phase limiters, and Trick Flow valve springs. I've been reading about timing chain tentioners and guide arms. I'm trying to find a better quality replacement now.

I got everything except timing chain guides, rails and tensioners.
