Help
I researched this prior to buying some used wheels.
I have a 2013 GT convertible that is lowered 1 1/2" (I think).

I bought some 20" wheels, the rear is a +35 offset 9 1/2" wide running Nitto 305/35 20 drag radials.
I put one on and it rubs on the outside.

I know the recommended wheel for this tire is a 10". The wheels came off of a 2012 GT500 that was lowered by some amount.

Is the problem the tire on the narrow rim? Anything I can do other then get new tires?

Raise the rear up some? I have lowering springs installed with an adjustable panhard.. I still have the stock springs.

He says he does have an adj Panhard. But I don't think that will help. Looks too wide on both sides

I didn't put the passenger side on. But the rears were centered with the stock rims.

The guy I bought them from said he didn't have any rubbing issues and he had 315 on there before he got the 305s

Missed that. The OP only had driver side pics.

And I missed that he only gave a drivers side pic. But if it's centerd on both sides there is not much you can do. Other than a narrower tire or a different rim.

I spoke with the tech guy at Hotchkis and he said that these rims were design d with the offset for Mustangs only.

That the rim face should be flush with the fender. With my car lowered as much as it is, what tire should I go with to replace these? 285? I will get Nitto to match the fronts.

Any idea what these drag radials are worth? They were $375 each, they have been mounted and run for about 100 miles. I did check the tread depth with a gauge and they are the 6/32" that they are new.

Not to derail...but were these bought in Pittsburgh area?. I saw these for sale on Craigslist and thought hmmm, those look nice. Good luck.

It appears you are lowered at least 2", and probably more. What springs do you have in the rear ? Do you know the rear spring rates? What rear shocks are being used, OEM, or something else.

Between being way too low, softish springs, and softish shocks, it will hit the wheel well.

I have no clue what springs I have. I bought the car from an older executive who was out of the country at the time. He had a lot of cosmetic mods done, but he paid people to do it and didn't get details.

The springs are a deep blue with a single green cool. Looks like stock shocks.

A 305-35-20 is a LARGE diam tire. Like 28.41" tall.....when used on a 10" wide rim..and perhaps a tiny bit taller, when used on a 9.5" rim.

My 285-40-18 on a 10" rim is only 26.97" tall....and I'm lowered 1". 28.41 - 26.97 = 1.44" 1.44 /2 = .72". IE: Due to your tire diameter, you will be .72" closer to the wheel well vs a 285-40-18. Add 1.5 - 2.0" lowering springs in the rear, and you can see the problem. ( too much rear drop + too tall a rear tire).

A full tank of gas weighs 100.6 lbs. Then toss in any junk /weight in the trunk... and perhaps 1-2 folks in the rear seats..and you are asking for trbl. The oem soft rear shocks just compounds the issue..when you hit bumps.

Typ GT-500 lowering springs are slightly stiffer than lowering springs for GT's..and typ provide for a 1" drop. Werid how one coil is painted green...is it the same deal on both sides ? Those look like oem shocks..which are pretty soft. Blue springs could be anything from Roush ( 1 / 1.25" drop) to FRPP P/K springs ( 1 /1.5" drop).

If you still want to use the 305-35-20, the rear will have to go back up a bunch..and with a 28.41" diam tire, either oem springs...or 1/2" rear drop at the most.

RIP - You will be missed
Being mounted on a rim that's half an inch below minimum recommended is the least of your problems.

It's really a case of too much tire for that +35 offset, combined with it being a taller tire on a lowered car. It simply bulges out too far and sits up too tall into less available space.

+35 offset on a 9.5" wide rear wheel would probably work OK if the tire was a 245/40-18, maybe 255/40-18 and the car was not lowered much, or maybe 245/ or 255/40-19 and the car not lowered at all. Stock axle width.

Which brings up a question - is there any chance that the guy you bought them from had been running a narrowed rear axle? Could it have been a 9" instead of an 8.8? Axle widths can easily vary from OE S197 spec by a couple of inches if they've been upgraded or swapped for drag racing duty.

I was able to fit a 275/40/19 on a 9.5 with 35 offset with my car lowered 1.5"
I don't think I would've tried for much more than that though, wasn't a ton of fender clearance left in the rear.

I can definitely get a 275 on there. I put the fronts on the rear to see how it looked.
It was on a 8.5 in rim, no clue what the offset is.

Those almost look like ground force springs. If they are ground force, I think they should say in small print on them somewhere. Otherwise I would guess Ford racing or roush.

Do you have the axle centered?
Cuz the fender lip hitting the tire there looks like the axle is way off to the left, besides the bad offset/tire size combo.

I'm using the same rear tires in the same size as you, on 10" wide wheels with a 40 mm offset and I still had fender contact, but much more toward the outside of the tire.
As a temporary solution, I raised the back of the car about an inch using Steeda adjustable spring perches and new coils from them.
Looking to do new wheels soon, so I can bring the back of the car back down where it belongs
