Terry Reeves 2011 Mustang GT 5.0

What better way to start off 2011 then with a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0! This month we have the 2011 5.0 belonging to Terry Reeves. With Vortech power at only 8.75 psi and a Jon Lund tune, this car has already broken into the 10s with a best E.T. to date of a 10.81 @ 128.6 mph with a 1.73 60 foot time. This car has been featured on Stang TV several times along with a recent feature in the Race Pages. This car has also seen ink in Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords and 5.0 Magazine. Lets take a closer look at Terry's 5.0.....

Terry works at Beechmont Ford in Cincinnati, so you know it wasn't long before he got hold of a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0. Modifications soon followed which include Stainless Works 1 7/8 primary pipe long tube headers with an off-road x-pipe, 3.55 gears, and of course the first Vortech supercharger for the new 5.0. With only 8.75lbs of boost and a Jon Lund tune, the Vortech powered 5.0 put down 528 rwhp and 448 rwtq.

But all that power needs to hit the pavement, so Terry also upgraded the rear suspension with cobra jet drag springs, Team Z upper and lower control arms, a detroit locker with 3.55 gears, and some Racestar wheels wrapped with Mickey Thompson 28X12.50X15 ET Street tires. While the car does have an Axle Exchange 4 inch aluminum driveshaft, Terry runs 10s with the completely stock automatic transmission with the stock converter. This thing sounds like a beast going down the track! Listen to this:

So running 10s at the track means you have to have a roll bar. Terry chose a custom 6 point roll bar from K&M Welding & Chassis Fabrication. Check out the pictures below, it looks very clean and love the color to:

Future Plans:

2010 was a good year for Terry in the NMRA. While only attending two events, he did make it to the 1/4 finals at Zmax, and won the JDM Super Stang class at the world finals held at Beach Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, KY.

For the 2011 season, a new motor is being built with 10 to 1 compression, diamond pistons, manley rods, jpc heads, cams, and fore fuel system with a 2010 fuel tank. Terry will be sticking with the stock auto and 3.55 gear combo however. Terry's goal is to compete in the heat in the 10.20-10.40 range consistently and dip into the 9.90s in the cool fall air.

Terry will run the entire NMRA points race for 2011. Good luck Terry!

About Terry, in his own words:

My name is Beefcake (aka Terry). In case you are wondering, I do not own a hamburger joint.

I am the top car salesman at the largest Ford dealership in Cincinnati, Beechmont Ford. I used to own a Diet and Sport Supplement Store and spent 10 years with General Nutrition Centers too.

I am a very big Cartman fan. (South Park for those of you who are lost in the dark ages). I do an excellent Cartman impersonation , especially at 2am while drunk!

Anyway, when an episode of South Park came out with Cartman drinking Weight Gainer 4000, He spent the whole episode running around yelling Beefcake!!!!!

Being as I workout a lot, and from when I used to own a supplement store where I sold weight gainers, and I run around talking like Cartman, my friends nicknamed me Beefcake. That is where the name comes from. See the resemblance!

Terry--congrats from the S197forum team for being 2011's first COTM!

Thought I'd throw some updates in here as well since Jan seems so long ago.

We added a Circle D converter mid season. We also opened up the trans to test out some high energy clutches from Exedy.

Went from the T trim to a JT trim head unit. We fabbed up a custom 4" power pipe and deleted some of the PCV work.

We had went to a Boss intake and then removed it as it was hurting me on the low end without a converter. 2 weeks ago we threw another Boss back on. We also cleaned up the engine bay by painting the valve covers, and power coating the coil covers.

I think the engine bay looks alot cleaner / meaner now.

On the dyno with the Boss and 13 psi we made 698. Without the Boss and 16 we made 709.

The newest combo has 18 psi with the Boss. I got to think we would be eclipsing the 800 mark on the next dyno trip.

On the front suspension we went to Double Adj Strange front struts with 175lb coil overs and Maximum Motorsports caster / cambers.

On the rear we went with Double Adj Strange rear shocks and a Team Z anti roll bar.

We added Speed Concepts Cross Drilled / Slotted rotors to give a more aggressive side stance.

I put about 5000 miles on the car since February when we got the new engine back together. I hit every NMRA event and finished 9th in the points. We were sitting at 5th going into the World Finals and going out first round dropped us to 9th with the double points at the final race.

However, the world finals were still good to us.

We were also lucky enough to get invited to the 5.0 King of the Street Competition.

In addition, we ran our first 9 second quarter miles pass.

So, everything that we wanted to do this year, we accomplished. I finally have not only a 9 second "street car", but a 9 second car I can hop in and drive for hours at a time.

I just was in the car this past Sunday and put 140 miles on her.

Here are a few pics from a couple of the tracks this year as well.

Enjoy!

For the World Finals / King of the Streets we cleaned off all the stickers other than my Stainless Works hood wrap to give the car a nice clean look!

thanks guys,

i got my 9 last year, now i want to be able to go 9's without race gas, i know e85 isn't available at every pump, but i have a few around here, so it will be a true daily driven 9 second car, that only has to stop at the pumps.

now i just gotta decide if i wanna throw a itsy bitsy hit on it to drop even lower ;)
