is your car lowered and did you have a problem before setting it at -3? this is good info, thanks.

what was the angle before setting it at -3?

The angle was irrelevant before as it was a stock 2 piece driveshaft. Manuals should be between -2 to -3 degrees on a 1 piece and autos -1 to -2 degrees on the same

i'm at -2 with the 1 piece...or it was when it was in the car. i talked to a guy yesterday that was the "drive train vibration specialist" that used to work for one of the local ford dealers. he says i need to be at about -4, which surpises me.

i'm trying to find out who has done what with angles and what if any difference it's made

How about everyone post what brand of alu driveshafts you have. They did one on in the last issue of Mustang Performace andther was no mention of any vibraton. Granted this was a drag strip only test but the trap speeds were in the low 100's where afew of you are mentioning getting the vibration. Maybe Ford was having trouble figuring it out too thus the 2 piece....anyone seen an aluminum 2 piece D shaft?

the drag strip test goes by so fast that you probably won't notice vibes on a 12 second pass unless they're pretty bad. i've thought of the two piece alum ds also, in fact i'm probably going to talk to one of the local shops to see if there's any way to convert my one piece.

fwiw mine is a "pseudo" spydershaft....built on the spydershaft pattern but made locally.

all is well. i reinstalled the alum ds after balancing by a different shop. no indexing, no pinion angle adjustment, no nothing, smoother than the original ds.

finally it's time to go on to new mods, like hot rod cams!

Something you may want to look at on the 1 piece is the trans / DS side of the driveline. I had a Jeep that I had to lower the tranny mount a 1/2 inch to fix that side too. The closer to a straight line you get everything, the better.

If you keep the stock 2 piece, lower the Center Bearing a 1/8" to 1/4" to take some of the angle out there as well.

Funny that you metion this becouse when I did my one peice shaft my trans and shaft are at 0* with the springs and all on my car , maybe this is why I dont have any vibs with mine.

Cool... 0* is perfect as far as the angle is concerned.

Per Ford, the stock DS has an operating angle of 11-12 deg, or 5-6 deg in any direction off zero. At 0* when you get suspension travel it will only flex to 1 or 2 deg. If you start at 2 or 3 deg, with suspension flex you could see 5 deg or more. But, you don't want to zero out the DS/Pinion or you won't get any oil on your leading pinion bearing. Find a happy medium.

i'm at +1 in the front and -2 in the back, with 4.10's the vibe is around 80mph. i'd be very happy to move it up to 105.

That is exactly what I have...... 4.10s and a vibe that starts at 80 mph.

You'd probably have better luck at Lowe's or Home Depot. I know I've seen magnetic base angle finders at Lowes before.

That's where I got my finder.... Now if they only sold adjustable UCAs. :roflmao:

0* is not the perfect angle if bearings didn't have to 'walk', or be lubed. Having 0 bearing walk can result in false brinelling, which will lead to premature bearing failure.

I am referring to zero degs being perfect as far as getting rid of vibration, not u-joint performance. If the DS is balanced and there are no angles, you wont have any vibration.

At the risk of looking like a idiot (I know, too late...) what is brinelling?

I'm going to try one more time with adjusting my p angle back to stock and working my way down then I'm calling the shaft bad. I've adjusted the pinion angle numerous times, check to make sure my rear was "squared" and had my rear end setup checked. Kinda running outta options. Maybe ron will be nice enough to exchange me a new shaft. Hell I'd be happy if I only had vibes 130 and up since I don't go that fast very often anyway.
