2012 boss 302 CPR turbo build

I made the decision to upgrade from my paxton into a turbo kit earlier this year. Car had been at 675 wheel on e85 and an AED tune. Ran a 10.71@136 with this setup at 7k+ DA. Regardless, I was looking for more. I did quite a bit of research before going with a CPR single.

Car has been done for a few months but I wanted to post this up as I haven't seen many of these build threads in particular on S197forum.

First off, the quality of this kit is really impressive. I went with the 76/83 turbo with the 1.10 housing given my power goals. In addition to the quality, the knowledge and help that Dustin provided has been awesome, learned more in these few months than I ever thought I would. Install was done in my garage with basic tools, absolutely doable by the average gear head.

Forgive the attachments as opposed to embedding, working off my phone.

First pic is the way I supported the motor, using a ratchet tie down around the crank with light pressure, with most of the support coming from the bell housing with a jack.

Then dropped the stock k member with steering rack. This allowed the room to pull the factory headers as well as prep the new k member to go in.

Next was swapping the oil pan (was a dirt cheap option), in addition to mounting the new headers as well as wrapping some of the electrical and ac lines. Again, very well thought out to prevent any melting or heat issues.

You'll have to delete the oil cooler if you had that option, but the k member can then go back in with both headers on. Took a lot of shifting the engine around to get everything lined up, but with some patience, they will all go in.

Once you hang the brace and wrap the crossover, that can go on.

I then hung the turbo (which is massive btw), but prior to that I had to drop the radiator and realign the top braces of the rad. The slim fan will fit in there, although it is more snug with the boss cars as well as the track packs with the thicker radiators.

I chose to go with a dumped JGS wastegate, glad I did because it sounds great. Just don't forget to swap springs as well as install the flange. It will have to go on before the downpipe as well. Next came time to hang the intercooler, in addition to the downpipe.

In between installing these large components were a lot more steps of wrapping and protecting wires near the hot side. The only physical extension of wires had to do with the passenger side O2 sensor, as the driver side is not generally used in the kit. Maf was unwrapped and unbundled from large loom above radiator, no cutting and splicing necessary.

As far as the cold side and cooling system, the kit supplies t bolts as well as silicone couplers to put both systems together. JGS bov installed as well. There is some sheet metal cutting required as well as relocation of the horn, but it was nothing major.

The most nerve wracking part of the install outside of swapping the oil pan was tapping the turbo to plumb the boost lines. Never thought to use the components Dustin recommended, but again, listen to the guy, knows his shit.

Then, the finished product. Everything lines up very well, really came together nicely, although you may be doing more trimming of the fascia with the 2012's. I had to trim much more than I initially had with the paxton intercooler.

Went to AED and Rob Williams for the tune, and our final numbers on 91 octane were 794/648. Now, keep in mind that this is in Denver, so the numbers are overinflated, as these are corrected. The take away here is that my old numbers had been 860/616 on e85 and 11.4 psi, versus the turbo numbers on 91 and 9 psi.

Then came time to turn it up, and things got crazy. Ended up at 1062/956, which is 868/781 uncorrected at 14.6 psi. All of the data logs were within limits and the bone stock boss motor did not skip a beat.

To say this thing pulls hard is a huge understatement. On the drive home I matted it in 5th gear (after turning down to 13 psi), and after it spooled the 285's immediately started spinning at well over 100 mph.

I'm not convinced the mt82 is a good solution so I will soon be addressing that. I could not be happier with the way this came together as well as the performance. If you are considering boosting your car, take a look at turbos, and put CPR at the top.

Good to see you enjoy the kit! Not only is it the best out, but Dustin's customer service is second to none.

How would you compare the seat of the pants feel to a centri? I know a lot of guys have asked this.

How would you compare the seat of the pants feel to a centri? I know a lot of guys have asked this.

The centri setup was definitely fast, it pulled hard but left a lot to be desired in the mid range. I think it complements the high rpms well, but I'd call it boring next to the pull of the turbo. The new setup is flat crazy, and pins you back in your seat like nothing I've ever felt. Now I know what torque is! I used to roast 3rd on a cold night, now it will literally spin well into 5th, it's a bit ridiculous haha. Had to get ET Streets soon after install.

Now you need to turn down the boost and run some of those EDP cars we keep hearing so much about.

you have any vids of your car? i plan on running this kit as well. and since your running open dumps did you leave your undercarriage off or make holes for it?

My friend put this video together, will give you an idea of the sound, but that was through full exhaust. I pulled the mufflers as well as the oap's, sounds really sweet now. Exhaust ends at the cross member, just left it open for now.

As for lining up with some edp cars, that may happen at some point. I'm local to them so there are definitely a few cars around here, will be fun.

did you have 2 purchase the wrap or did it come with the kit it looks like titanium wrap how is it holding up any issues with it since you been done
