After this recent rental and grinding or getting locked out of 2nd gear multiple times it seems it's about that time AGAIN to fix 2nd gear. The TR3650 just plain out sucks for drag racing, it's just not up to the task.
I am on my 3rd TR3650, I have a fresh on in the garage that is in working condition so I am going to see if I get it swapped soon.

But thinking longer term, do I continue to fuck up my transmissions or do I go... dare i say it...

AUTO!?

I LOVE to shift, I LOVE to kick that clutch in, but having to fix this motherfucker every year is pissing me right off and I don't make enough power to warrant a T56 nor do I want to, I;d like to stay NA, been reading up on the 4R70W and been hearing good things, I would probably go manual valve body if I did do it, or maybe just try and get a 5R55S but I've heard that swap is a bit more complicated?

What would you guys do? I was looking to get a new clutch for black Friday and swap it in with the working trans that I have in the garage and just work on the shitty 2nd gear and have that as another good swap on standby. I would have ZERO PROBLEM keeping my trans if it didn't keep havign 2nd gear shit the bed on me.

another IDEA, dogtooth just 2nd gear or some custom shit like that? (just thought of that since my only real issue is 2nd)
I don't know what its' called when they make a custom sycro with those big ass teeth...

TR-6060 swap, you WILL kick yourself for not doing it sooner. Wait for a cheap one to pop up.

I'd do it if I could be guaranteed 2nd gear can take the drag strip abuse. Also would need like 4.88's in the rear with my low power level since it has a 2.97 first compared to 3.38 in the 3650.

The 6060 is built much stronger than the 3650. The larger gears and triple synchronizers handle far more abuse. It's also a night and day difference in shifting.

I've had 3.55, 4.10, and 4.56 gears with my 6060. Right now I'm running 4.10 and they compliment it nicely. If I had to get new gears right now I'd probably go back to 4.56 but make no mistake it works real well with 4.10. Especially with the 5th and 6th gear overdrive.

I personally wouldn't waste any money on anything special done to a 3650. No matter what is done to it it's still got the small gears, crappy synchronizers, and is power limited due to the gear size. BTW that advice came to me from Liberty Gear when I was researching what to do with my own 3650. They talked me out of spending a whole lot of money with them and into buying a used 6060 from a wrecking yard. A polished turd is still a turd, you know?

Hmmm researching 6060 stuff now.
Is my car going to be a dog with that gearset though?
I'm looking at the magnum xl's with the close gearset. looks great but almost 5k, I can probably be done with a 6060swap under 3k right?.
Going to have to breakout the gear calculators!

The only thing I've read about that consistently works for the 3650 shifting issue is upgrading to the GT500 master cylinder. It moves more fluid so it kicks the throwout farther. I wish I could have put one in my car before I totaled it.

Hmm, I thought they were the same, all the aftermarket sites sell slave cylinders for gt/gt500 interchangeably.

What would you guys do?

I just read the posts on your thread asking what other people thoughts are on your situation ???

I noticed not one person said anything about you changing over to an automatic from your manual tranny.

I'm not familiar with you in regards to the following things and your Mustang,

Is your mainly for Drag-Racing ???

Meaning what percentage is your's used for Drag-Racing versus just simply driving it ???

If the answer to the above is, mainly for Drag-Racing purposes and you want to be really (Consistent).

My opinion is,

Convert to one of the Automatic transmissions of your choice and don't look back.

I run this next transmission but I would "Not" recommend it for serious Drag-Racing on a Regular Basis.

Great info thanks Tiger!! It's actually turning into a weekend/drag strip car rather than a street car lately. for instance I'm probably keeping the interior out for the rest of the year, but I still like to joy ride it and take it out any chance I get so it can't be too horrible to drive. I like the idea of a full automatic though, but if the install is too complicated because of it I would definitely have no problem doing a full manual-auto. I will check out the links soon, really just getting tired of fixing the same issue in the same trans. over and over.

TR6060 or a T56. You spend more upfront but save in long run.
t56 is soooo tempting that non remote shifter tho :omfg:

I just put a brand new tremec 3650(bought from Liberty Gear) $895 shipped and a new clutch master cylinde rfrom advance auto, 3 litres of Dex III from Walmart and its fantastic!!
Liberty has more, check ebay TR-3650, you'll see them. I already have prothane mounts, MGW shifter, braided steel clutch line.

I am asking liberty about their faceplating gear service just for second gear, that may be a quick fix while I figure out what I am going to do.

Because you are so into drag racing I would go auto and don't look back.

I know, but I really pride myself on my super dope shifting/driving with the stick.
It's almost like "they" are winning if I get an auto :roflmao: but it's easier on me by a long shot if I have to keep fuckin with this trans every year and worry about it shitting the bed. Plus, I have no idea how I am going to go back and delete all my posts making fun of automatics. :roflmao:
