Head gasket problem.....

A friend of mine popped a head gasket...I've never been into a 4.0.. Can head gaskets be removed/replaced with the engine in the car? What kind of problem area are there...is this something an average skill guy can do with the proper tools..what about cam timing upon reassemly. Help a brother out and shoot me some info please.

Sure it was a head gasket? Most likely it's the thermostat housing, if coolant if everywhere. Very common.

yea it can be pretty difficult. i wouldn't suggest doing it yourself if you are 'new' to automotive repair. i would get someone who knows what they are doing very well or just take it to a shop. there is a lot that goes into replacing a head gasket.
if you are looking to do it yourself, get like a repair manual or some good instructional videos. here i found one to help out.

i hope this helps

and yea also check your thermostat and spark plugs. check for leaks also before you begin to remove the cylinder.
