Is the rear end in the 2006 v6 s197's a 8.8 or is it a 7.5? Its a vert if that matters....

Just wondering so I can do a possible gear swap with some 3.55's I already have...

Thanks...Kevin

Weak-ass 7.5.

Just buy the 8.8. It'll be way cheaper in the long run.

On a side note, what does the number notate? The thickness of the axle?

7.5 equals 7 1/2" measured across. The 7.5 is fine unless you start building alot more power. I would add a T-Loc of some sort while you swap out gears. The trans is a weak link also over 300 hp, so unless you're going to upgrade the trans, clutch, driveshaft and rear end, leave it, drive it, love it.

Well shucks... I have a 3.55 and a T-loc both for an 8.8.... I hoped it would work.

Get an empty 8.8 housing and put them in!

Just be careful making slow left-handed turns on slippery surfaces with the stock 7.5; many a peeps have spun out and lost control. Adding a t-loc or putting in a 8.8 solves that issue as well.

The weak link on the 7.5 when you get to adding more power is the spyder gears. They tend to break. The tranny is tough enough for most people, even with a power adder.

I put a "New Take Off" 8.8" axle with 3.73 gears in my V6 for about $600. Got gearing and T-loc and beefier rear end all in one package. QED.

going to a 3.55 from 3.31 wouldn't do much for you anyway. If you're going to spend the money for the install kit and the labor, go 3.73 or 4.10. You'll really feel the difference.
