I'm looking at putting in a Limited slip differential in my rear end but don't want to pay over $400 for one if I don't have to.
Does anyone know of a cheaper differential?
My 2005 V-6 takes a 7.5in, 28 spline.
If also know of a full spool, that would be fantastic too.
Thanks in advance. :helpme:

What part to buy isn't tech
Will be moved

But most recommend upgrading to 8.8 rather than building 7.5

Meh it's a V6..... So it'll stay.

Better to spend a bit more and get a take off 8.8 IMO

$400 will get you a used 8.8 axle.

I have no idea if Eaton makes a Truetrac for the 7.5".

Yeah, just swap in a 8.8 especially if you're gonna build it up at all ...

It's hard to even find a new differential for the 7.5. And if you do find one, it is usually cheaper to just pull the 7.5 and put the 8.8 from a 2005-10 V8 or any 2011+ in its place.

You could weld the diff and make it a spool yourself.

Sorry about the wrong location for the post, I figured this was a tech question.
But thank you for all of the suggestions. If I were to try to do a rear axle swap, where would be the best place to find said axle?
Also, what is my stock gearing? I'd like to keep the gearing where it's at.

Call around to your local junk yards and get an idea what they are asking for them and what kind of mileage is on them. Regardless of mileage, if you buy a used one then you want to pull the back cover to inspect the gears and change the fluid.

I just have a thing with buying new if I can afford to do so.

Once I get the money together I'm swapping out my rear and will be selling it... has moser axles and 4.10 motive gears with ford racing LSD... but I want to tear it down first to see if when I traded it in last time that they didnt change that out...But I'll be starting that project probably after new years because I will be in mississippi

Try car-part.com and put your location in for the search. You can also try newtakeoff.com.

The stock gear on the 2005-10 was 3.31. A 3.55 was optional but I don't think that it was available on the 4.0

I went through this question over the summer. I started checking craigslist and forums regularly for a nice condition 8.8 and eventually ran across one with 30k miles that I ended up paying $120 for. It needed a new pinion seal which is not a big deal at all since the pinion flange needs to be changed.

My point is that there are really good deals out there for them if you just be patient.

I bought my rear end complete with 4:10s from new take off . Com. I don't know if they are still around or not.

It is, but rarely do they ever have anything I'm interested in. I do check it periodically though

Although, what you're asking about is a Ford trac-loc for a 7.5. But, I agree, by the time you buy one and pay someone to put it in, you can get a 8.8 takeoff.
