Limited Slip Differential Question

Since I'm rebuilding my rear end, I am also goin to install a Limited Slip Dif. I could only find two, and would like some input.

Auburn P/N 542023
Yukon. P/N YDGF7.5-28

And....go!

Auburn tru trac seems to be the most popular. It's a gear driven LSD and can hold substantial power.

Yukon is a great brand . I've used gears from them and they have been around a long time. I just don't know anything about their diffs.

Detroit True Trac will hold up to drag racing hard launches better than either of those and it's very street friendly.

And what part to buy isn't considered tech on this forum.

Edit: Sorry, just saw this was in the v6 section. So you have a 7.5 rear end. Best option is replacing it with a junkyard 8.8" rear, they have a L/S differential from the factory.

It's going to cost you more to rebuild and try to strengthen the 7.5 rear end than it will cost to just get the 8.8 and swap rear ends.

Well I've already checked the junkyards around me, and haven't found 8.8 rear ends. First thing I did. So I decided to just build on what's there.

Either unit will work fine for your build.

Check car-part.com for your area.

Check the forums and craigslist. I got lucky with a like-new GT500 8.8 (~250 miles) caliper to caliper w/control arms for $450 off craigslist that the owner removed to swap in a 9".

I have checked CL and car-parts and found nothing. I even looked around IL and OH and still nothing. I would prefer to build up what I have, but if anyone should happen to see an 8.8 around for sale close to Chicago/Tinley/Downers Grove/Gary/Hammond/Lansing. Lemme kno.

There is also LKQ.

For a DD you don't plan on racing hardcore...
A ranger 7.5 lsd.
Cheap as all get out at a junkyard.
Maybe even direct from Ford (if they still do)

Two wheel peel, and cheap.

Held up to my drag racing and autobahn travels. Never ran slicks though.
Didn't explode with the Xcharger either.

Would like to upgrade to an 8.8 LSD on my 05 V6. Would driveshaft be a problem? Thanks! don-ohio ^)

You can use your V6 driveshaft with the 8.8 by installing a 2003-2004 FRPP SVT Cobra pinion flange on the 8.8 pinion. They are $50 from AM, CJP, LMR, etc.

Get a new pinion nut while you're at it to ensure a good seal.

IIRC, the Aerostar's and Ranger's used leaf springs. Very little will be there to mate up with an S197 chassis.

You'd be better off searching for an 8.8 from an '05 to '14 GT, '07 to '14 GT500 or '11 to '14 V6

Okay,thanks again! FYI , the Aerostar has rear coils.....just replaced mine over a year ago.
