Rear end is broken and am getting ready re build- I am considering switching the rear gears to a 2.73 ratio- to run the 1/4 mile in 3rd gear and run the 1/2 mile in 4th gear- Just looking to here from anyone that made the switch to 2.73's- 3.15's are to steep to cover me in the half mile-looking to run 173+. the 2.73 mathematically covers me for the 1/4 and 1/2 in the upper rpm range of 3rd and 4th where I want to be. Was also looking at buying a new 2.73 rear gear from ford- these came stock in the 11-14 6cyl 6r80 cars. Any thoughts?

I'd like to do the same, would almost carry me through the traps in the eighth in the very tip top of 2nd instead of the middle/ bottom of third like I currently am. My highest 1/8th mph has been 97.x, so I'd be near 7500 on my 28" tire. I've checked on Ebay and found a few also.

I wouldn't hesitate for 1 second running a set of used gears, unless they didn't look good for some reason.

What are you trapping in the 1/4 and what is your rev limit set to? I am guessing you are already running 28" tires.

If it were me I would get a pair of 30s (295/65/15) for the extra room in 3rd gear in the 1/4 and keep the 3.15s.

I'm not sure if you're talking to bunits or me, but I'm pretty content running in the eighth, and right now my car has trapped a best of 97.x and 2.73.s on a 28" tall tire would put me at around 7500rpm's and if the limiter's not set that high yet, I'm guessing it would be safe to do so??

I was responding to the OP, sorry about that. Out of curiosity how high are the Coyote guys revving their stock block + boosted cars?

75/7600- converter unlocked(stock) a 2.73 @143ish is about 74oo with converter slippage- in the 1/4. and 173 is 68/6900 with slippage with room to grow- I don't have my 3.15's any more and 3.55 are crunched- I run a 20" 305 mt et street
