Not sure why Ford decided to not paint the rear diff's.
Even my 86 Capri had no paint on it's diff and I guess
it continues today.

So I had sway bar and lower/upper control arms out.
Figured there was no better time than that.
Nothing fancy, just some rust converter gloss black spraycan,
but it's got to be better than light surface rust colored.

I'm sure the reason that Ford doesn't paint the rear end housing is for cost reasons, and a little surface rust really doesn't hurt anything. But I agree, having it painted does look awesome. Nice job!

Looks good, well done!

Good looking, there

Thanks all.

TGR, I'm sure you are right, but my parents, new to them, 2009 Grand Marquis, a Pa car, has so much flaked rust on rear axle and DS, I started to question to myself, their structural integrity. Floorboard is pristine, and even frame has almost no rust.

Lots of scale on this, I did a ton of work grinding, chipping, etc... then hit it with cheap paint. Cheaper to buy a new 9" later on than to spend now on stripping and real paint.

OP,

Nice job and it sure does look better than the Rust !!!

I also painted mine back in 2009 or so with a brush and the car on jack stands in the driveway.

Hot job for sure but it damn sure looked lots better than the rust from the factory.

Just takes time and effort .............

Did mine when the differential was shortened, didn't powder coat just used rattle cans of chassis paint. Once done my Crew Chief helped button up the install. She was a stickler for detail as she wanted to double check everything I did!

I didn't even think about using a brush! I need to try this soon.

You guys all did a fantastic job. That rear assembly is an eyesore when you're underneath.
