I finally have the ability to run a ½ mile event May 20th. My goal for the event is to run 150mph on the stock shortblock. I haven’t had a chance to run at the ¼ mile track yet, I plan on going when it opens next year to get a good idea of where the car sits. It looks like stock 13-14 GT500 run 144-147 and hellcats run 150+, so I figure 150 should be a fun challenge.

Here’s the car as it sits now:
Paxton 2200/blow through/3.4” pulley (10 psi)
Long Tubes/off road H/Corsa sports
TR6060/ACT twin disk/aluminum ds
C&L manifold
4.10 gears
Nitto 555r drag radials

Dynoed 518 whp for what it’s worth, I think it was a bit high, no torque readout
Last weight was 3488, but added the tr6060 and swapped from an aftercooler vortech to an intercooled paxton.

Some things I would like input on:
Welding axle tubes – I figure why not, I plan to hit up the ¼ mile anyway and would hate to bend an axle tube
Convert to E85 – Increased octane and a cooler engine, huge pluses for a long pull, downside is availability, little out of the way, but can make it work. Regardless, thinking maybe 1 tune for 93 and another for E85.
Any aero ideas?
The 4.10s will require a shift to 5th at about 130mph, if I ran 3.55 that would negate that shift. Worth it?

Things I will do before the event:
Tiger Racing Hood – had this thing for about 4 years now, time to get it painted and some aerocatch hood pins
BMR K-member and Tubular radiator support

Would like to hear any input, skepticism, or wisdom.
Merry Christmas!

I'd rather not go that crazy on the street. Not worth it to me if something goes wrong and someone pays for my mistake. The track should open up early enough that I'll still have time to make decisions and test n tune. If I can hit upper 120s in the 1/4 mile that should put me close.

Where are the 1/2 mile events at? Not sure what you mean by E85 is a little out of the way but a friend of mine gets E85 from 2 different stations in the Fayetteville area.

Wanna Go Fast is putting one on near Charlotte.

I've looked on several e85 locator websites and haven't seen any in fayetteville. The closest stations to me are about 20 minutes north in Raleigh and 45 minutes West near southern pines.

Got the driveshaft loop, and brembos up front with new rotors and pads and fluid flushed just a few months ago.

Safety is the number one thing in my mind. I really wish the budget allowed for a cage, but I don't think that's going to happen. I plan on filming everything and taking pics as a way to document what has worked for me.

Some smaller things I'm in the process of:
currently have breathers on the car, I'm removing the PCV valve from the drivers side valve cover, and going to run a catch can.
N2MB WOT box install - I want to wait till after I run at the track to see how much it helps

I think your about 50+ rwhp short for your goal but going to e-85 should get you closer to the 550+rwhp - is the 3480 the race weight of the car or just the car with out driver- I would have a fresh balance job on your tires and have a almost new set of properly rated tires on the front. what year is your car I am assuming it is a 3v? You can never be to safe I really think a cage is over kill for doing a couple half mile races a year but to each their own. Maybe I will see you at the race I am looking to do a couple half mile races in 2017 as well- but my goal is to hit 170 with my new engine going in the next few weeks-good luck in your quest for 150.

The Georgia one sells out in under 15mins every time so be ready.

My car went 135.5 at wanna go fast, it weighs around 3640 with me in it and dyno'd 37x at the time. One of my friends went 151 in his vortech'd coyote, made right at 600 and weighed 3800lbs. If you can make 550 and weight 34xx you'll be close imo.

Thanks for all the information guys. The 3480 is only the car, I'm hoping to trim that down to 3400, and end goal <3600 with me sitting in it.

It is a 3V, a 2008. This would be much easier if it was coyote, but I'll see what happens at the track and if it needs a little extra push to hit the mph, then I'll throw some ID1000s on it and get an E85 tune.

Even with 3.73s and 29" tires, you're going to be spinning 6500rpm at 150mph.
I do believe you'll need a gear swap to avoid using 5th.

Have you made any test hits on the 555R's? Just curious how they are on a 500+hp car. Not a full 1/2 mile run but I mean 60' launches.

I've ran several high speed events and I don't think you're going to hit 150. With a stock bottom end and 520rwhp my TVS trapped 142-ish with 4.10's. That was with the stock TR3650 and a shift into 5th.

After an engine build and 580rwhp w/3.31's on a 1/2 mile I trapped 152,

Switching to a T56 w/3.08's and adding 250shot of nitrous got me to 164 in 4th. That 164 netted 192 on a standing mile with a .83 OD 5th.

The TR6060 has a .80 or .74 5th so a shift into 5th shouldn't hurt you as it'll help keep you in the power band. Like you said, looking at a gear calculator you should shift into 5th @130 a little past the 1/4 mile so you'll have a fairly long 5th gear pull.

I'm going to try and make this event or the May event in Georgia if I can get my turbo kit finished by then.

I'm going to try for 200 on the Texas Mile ..

I'd like to go to Georgia in may and Charlotte as well. I think mine will get into 150's with 680 wheel on 3650 with 3:55 gears but don't really know

Or scatter the 3650 [emoji15]

I only have experience on the street with the 555R, but just playing around I can spin them in second. Once I take them to the track I'll post up how they did.

Thanks. That's the information I was looking for. Would you know what your car weighed or your 1/4 mile ET/trap speed from when you were running 142 or 152?

I've done a couple half mile events, both in my dads car though. N/A 3v is a waste of time in the half lol. His car: 675whp GT500 at 4050lb race weight, 3.55 gears, and 28" tire. Went 157 pretty consistently on each pass. I had to shift into 5th for a little bit each time. Here's an in-car video a friend took, went 157 as well on this pass. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiR6zoQtEiw

You're going to have a tough time breaking the high 140 mark but I bet it'll be close, depending on weather. Start out slower/easier at first, it's nothing like a 1/4 mile drag race. Example...my boss made 3 half mile hits in his 10xx whp GT500. First one he blew the tires off in first and second, went 174. Second pass he only spun a bunch in first and went a shade under 180. Final pass was smooth with minimal wheel spin and it went 185mph. Lol
