The overhead cam 4.0?
If you can't pull the valve covers and be 100% certain the timing chain tensioners and guides are intact you might as well over haul what you have...the last used one I installed took me going through 4 or 5 used engine before I broke down and rebuilt one of them.
The one customer I did find a 4.0 in good enough condition used, failed with-in 10k and it was a used Ford replacement engine (complete with ID tag).
They tensioners have a 60k lifespan, when people don't replace them the guides fail and eventual either it jumps time or breaks the passenger side cam.
It's best to not go the used engine route with the SOHC Ford 4.0, if you do, address the timing components before installing it!
