Am new to the site. Only recently purchased a 2006 convertible (kids finally gone and now time to play).

Have rusted rear support braces on 2006 v6 convertible. Research shows that the parts for 2006 are AR3Z76102B54B and AR3Z76102B55B and priced around $500 each. The 2010 model shows 2 additional part numbers (AR3Z76102B54A and AR3Z76102B55A) for cars produced after 8/09. Was there a huge production change at 8/09 in the rear support area that required a part change? (http://www.fastoemparts.com/parts/2...&component=&searchText=&startRow=41&maxRow=10)
Why would the "A" part numbers not fit cars produced before 8/09? The price of the "A" parts are roughly half of the "B" parts. Have seen several instances of people replacing these by welding in frame extensions. Would much rather have a bolt in replacement part, but dropping a grand for the parts is steep.

Not sure on a change but I unbolted and trashed those braces like 7 years ago.

No new info. on this? Mine are rusted and I'm thinking Ford put them on there for a reason. I can have a welding shop make them for less,I'm sure. Any ideas, anyone?

How rusted? Just surface or structural? If it's just surface take them off, sand, remove rust and paint and re-install.

Just wanted to say publicly on this forum what a great job Snakbitn did in shipping my subframe braces. Best packing job on steel I've ever seen. He had them immovable with tie wraps and PVC pipes spacing them.
He's gotta be from green Bay,cause the Packers couldn't pack any better! LOL! THANKS, Snakbitn!! The braces are in perfect condition! don-ohio :)^)

Been looking into the rusted out braces since the 05 vert I bought my wife had a pair of badly rusted supports. I picked up a nice solid pair of braces in FLA when I was down there in January and just grabbed two separate ones in AZ this week at a couple of U pick junkyards. Reading this post I see Ford has two part numbers for the brace, one for the 05-09 ( which are no longer available from Ford) and a later model part. One of the guys at the yard said the braces off any 05-2014 should interchange. This seems like it might be true since one of the braces I got was off a 2012 vert and it looks like all the holes etc. are the same. Interesting to note though that the 2012 brace has been improved with gussets and extra welds and stuff.

convertible braces

Hi. I am new to this forum. Thanks for the help so far (part numbers and suggestions and such). My support braces are off the car (2007 GT) now (no difference that i can tell) but i'd like to get them repaired or replaced. Not having any luck with repair. I'm being told they are too far gone with nothing to weld to. I can find replacements but with shipping, i'm still over/near $700. Has anyone found any new source? Thanks...
