Well lookie here what finally got done this week, or at least some of it got done. I have the short block but it turns out the oem valve seats are too small for the over size Manley extreme duty valves that I ordered so my machine shop had to order all new over size seats, they should arrive tomorrow then they can install them and finish the valve job, hopefully I'll get my heads back in a few days.

Round #4 officially begins now:

The sleeve was installed in #5, look how big it is compared to the oem sleeve! My machinist said it was a real PITA to bore it out too, the material is way harder than the oem stuff.

Crank is in it's new home, end play came in at .006 this time.

PTW is .0045 to .0050 on this motor, a little looser than previous motors. Main bearing clearances are a little looser too than my previous motors at .0026 - .0028, rods are the same .0025.

Spent some time admiring these new pistons, I literally only had them in my possession for a few minutes before I brought them to the machine shop, they are damn sexy!

Ran into a snag with the piston rings not having enough side clearance with the piston so I get to bring them back to the shop tomorrow to get clearanced. Range is .0015 to .003 and I can't get my .0015 feeler gauge in there so she's too tight!

Good updates!!!! That sleeved #5 looks quality. You running some kind of old school thick ass rings in this rig? Maybe the piston was made for those new skinny rings....lol

Is that what the piston manufacturer reconmends? What alloy are you running?

the rings are the usual 1.5-1.5-3.0 so IDK why they're tight..

Actually yes, these are custom Diamond pistons and the paperwork that came with them said to run .005 PTW.

Short block is done!

Side clearances all came in at .017 - .018.

Always love the shot of the head studs sticking out, looks like miniature top fuel dragster motor!

took a shot of my work space late last night, thought it was kind of cool..

Now back to the waiting game, waiting for the intake valve seats to come in and my shop to finish the valve job so i can finish my motor. Hopefully this week yet..

Lol! Yeah I hope not 4 times in less than 4 years is more than enough rebuilds for me! Hopefully I can keep this one together for a while

needless to say the new valve seats didn't arrive this week, supposedly they'll be here Monday then I'll get my heads back shortly thereafter. Back to the waiting game.

Yeah minor details like the cylinder heads!

No the valve seats.

Hm never heard of bronze seats before, learn something new all the time!
