curious if all shops these days are not disabling the o2 sensors if you have a catless X or H pipe?

wanted to get rid of my canned bama tune, but was told by shop I contacted they could not turn them off, then I would have a CEL. So that's a no go.

So, whom can I go to for a good tune, that will turn off my o2's? All I have is a CAI, o/r X, and 20's to tune for really. Other exhaust mods and suspension mods wont matter.

They can turn them off if they have half a brain for tuning, maybe they wouldn't because of liability?

I would think, Lund, VMP, Realspeed, anyone of them could write you a "off - road" tune ;-)

It's not that they can't, it's that they won't. For liability issue, yes.

The one I contacted was one you listed and they said they couldn't turn them off.

My rear O2's are off in my tune. I have to flash my "emissions pass tune" when I go to get the inspection every 2 years. It takes like 15 minutes of driving before I go to pass inspection. Then I reinstall my normal tune and good to go. Honestly, I should be able to leave them on. I have high flow cats and everything is 49 state legal.

Use some spark plug non foulers, been working for me for years on my "emissions tune" without codes.
Of course I still need a little help passing a visual.

my current tune has them turned off as well, the company I wanted to get he's tunes from does not turn them off. I was asking about others experience with their cars and shops.

No inspection here in FL. I'd hate to spend the money on the tune and the foulers not work.

So what's the purpose behind high-flow cats if you have to turn off the rear o2 sensors.. If they're not preventing the check engine light from coming on, their obviously not 49 state legal as advertised nor are they doing their job as intended.. I was actually considering adding high-flow cats with my o/r prochamber, but after reading over your post, why even bother if their unable to pass OBD II emissions testing let alone prevent the check engine light from coming on to begin with.. Might be better off just adding non foulers with my current prochamber set up rather than spend another $150+ on high-flow cats that don't pass emissions testing anyhow

If you have no inspections/emissions in FL.. Why even bother spending the money on non-foulers to begin with anyhow.. Doesn't make any sense at all IMHO..

I have been running high flow cats for a couple of years. No codes and no issues with inspections here in Virginia.

To be honest I don't know why he has them off. I guess Just to keep everything nice and quite with no blips. He has everything off. It says that I passed but the state sent me a letter and said WTF- You need to go and try it again. I think they knew that an 06 should have came from the factory with cats and O2's.

When I put my "emissions pass" tune in it turns everything on and I get no CEL and it runs great. The cats do work. The water dripping out the tips, the smell not burning you eyes like when I was catless and the CEL staying off even when the tune has everything turned on. I don't care if it is on or off because it is so easy to change it back and forth.

My experience with the mods done to my car and tuning is what I was answering. For me, my tuner and I have just emailed back and fourth to tune my car so no matter where you live he can tune your car and you could have the great service and quality tuning that I have experienced. I'm sure he will accommodate all your needs.

I don't want to spend the money on non-foulers.
I'm not going buying high flow cats (no one's suggested this, just saying)
I also don't want to spend money on a different/new tune if it will result in a CEL.

I was exploring options of getting rid of my Bama Tune, and hit a wall at my first turn. Was asking about other's experience.

My VMP tune from 3 years ago has them on. I have read that in Coyote cars you need them left on to keep the widebands calibrated. Regardless most mainstream tuners will not write an offroad tune with them off now.

My car wouldn't pass with defoulers. Maybe 200 miles wasn't enough but I gave up on them.

What brand are your high-flow cats, Magnaflow, Thunderbolt, Pypes or Bassani ?

My guess is unless your running the stock catted mid-pipe and request the rear 02's be left on, the tuners have them turned off by default..

As for the letter you got from the state, how would they know if your running high-flow cats or the stock catted mid pipe unless your state's inspection station informed them that your car failed the visual portion of the state emissions inspection.. However the state safety inspection isn't related with the state emissions inspection requirements anyhow, although technically the inspection station can at their discretion fail your car for removal of any OEM equipped emissions catalyst device under state and federal law if they really want to be dicks about it..

If your state doesn't require emissions testing, then you don't really need to spend money on high-flow cats nor non foulers anyhow.. So I wouldn't even worry about it to begin with.. If your looking to get rid of your Bama tunes, I'd recommend looking into tuners such as VMP, Lund, JDM engineering, Steeda and Lito.. They're far better tuners over AM/Bama without a doubt.. As getting rid of CEL's, just get a revised tune that turns off the rear 02 sensors, heck Bama can even do that for you.. Just saying.

Would you happen to know what the cell count is.. Are they 100, 200, 300 openings per square inch for the Flowmasters ? If I can get past the OBD II emissions test with 100, 200 or 300 cell count, I'll look into the Flowmaster's along with Magnaflow and Thunderbolt HF cats..

The computer that they plug into to the car didn't see anything wrong. No CEL and the timers were all timed out so it said that the car passed. I assume that the 06 model and the computer saying that it didn't come with a catalytic system threw up a flag and someone audited my test. Anyhow the state sent a letter saying that there was a problem with my test and my license plate had been suspended until I get another passing test at an approved location. Changed the tune and no issues.

Seem as though WI is just as bad as PA lol. Honestly I really don't understand how the computer or diagnostic scanner they plugged into your car's OBD II port didn't find anything wrong and passed emissions, but yet says didn't come with a catalytic system.. So my question is, if the computer doesn't detect a catalytic system as being present, then how can the car pass the OBD II port emissions test to begin with.. Something sure isn't adding up as it just doesn't make any sense at all IMHO..

You would think that with the 02 sensors being turned off, you would get both the check engine light and fail the OBD II emissions test altogether

But in the end, all that really matters is that your car passes with the rear 02 sensors turned on in the tune.. Guess I'll just have to make certain to keep my car below 5000 miles per year in order to avoid going through emissions inspection..

Btw: What high-flow cats are you running ?

Kooks, These with the O2 risers.

Yes, if he turns everything on in the tune I get no CEL. I think I will email him and ask why he doesn't have everything on. It may be because at WOT he has the AFR going fat and said that it should help to not to burn the cats out. The extra fuel would have a cooling effect and it may trigger the CEL. I could have misunderstood but that is how I remember it. Also I have phase limiters and he had to do something with the timing or the CEL would come on after long interstate driving.
