05 GT Best daily summer driver tire? Midwest weather.

Looking for recommendations for new tires. Those who have actually used or are using a specific brand with good results please post up. 2005 GT Convertible. Stock. This is the wife's daily during the summer months. Wheels are GT500 18's. Currently a square set (would like to keep square set up) of Good Year F1's 255/45/18. 84 mile round trip daily. 54 mile interstate (70MPH+) 30 mile 55MPH 2 lane farm roads. SE Wisconsin & Northern Illinois is its home. It does get caught / used in the rain. Stored during the winter months, no snow use. The Good Years never seemed to perform even decent in the rain. Time to replace and want a good option that wont wear out in 20,000 miles and performs in the rain well on the sunny days better. If there are better know places to purchase recommendations other than Tire Rack or Discount Tires please include that info as well. Thank you for the input. Tom

Michelin's Pilot Sport A/S 3+ comes in 255/45-18 for about $212 t Tire Rack (and I think Michelin is running their annual $70 off promotion).

Alternatively, the MPSS comes in 275/40-18 and 265/40-18 which are slightly shorter but entirely do-able for the driving that you described. 275/40 is a fairly common S197 fitment. The 265/40 would probably look a little better with slight lowering (that's the size I'm running on the same wheels that you have).

I would like to stay $200 or under per. I have a machine & balancer.
I am liking the reviews and mileage wear on the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus 255-45-18. Original equipment was a Pirelli and they were good. Has anyone run these?

Treadwear should only be one of several "tie-breakers" to make the final choice among two or more tires that meet your tire performance requirements. Tire Rack's own testing can give you a pretty good idea where the tires they tested stand, the only caveat being that you probably shouldn't compare the numbers between different tests directly. But the subjective test drive comments can help fill in the gaps.

Thru my personal experience, the original OEM equipped Pirelli P Zero Nero tires were absolutely horrible in wet/rainy conditions and traction wasn't much better in dry conditions either for that matter. As for their all season plus tires? I have no personal knowledge or experience with them, therefore I can't really say anything about them one way or the other.

If you intend on staying with your current tire size of 255/45/18? I would highly recommend BFG G-Force Comp-2 A/S, Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06, BFG G-Force Sport Comp-2, Yokohama Advan Sport A/S, Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position, and Continental Extreme Contact Sport as my top choices. All are under $200.00 thru Tire Rack.

Not on a Mustang, but I have a set of these on my Jag XJR in 245/45R18. Very smooth and quiet ride, great traction in the wet too, I was pleasantly surprised. Pirelli has gotten pretty aggressive with the pricing of their replacement product lines like this one.

2nd on the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+'s, great traction on every road condition I've driven on.

X2 on the BFG G-Force Comp-2 A/S. Just put a set on the GT500, they have outstanding traction in the cold and wet. I have made a couple of 1.9 60' runs with them and did fairly well at a local autox on them as well.

Yesterday my wife took the car to work and called me when she arrived. She was very happy with the ride and handling change from the worn Good years. Currently running at 30PSI Cold. I will monitor tread wear and adjust as needed.

Michelin makes a great tire, much better than those Goodyear's as you are now experiencing. Be sure to check the alignment if you're seeing quick tire wear. "Toe out" is the biggest culprit to poor wear, not camber settings or even tire pressure (to an extent).
