For home automation I've been using a lot of Insteon products. You can get pretty creative using motion sensors and switches etc.

I gotta agree with you. I plan to eventually have mine painted but it was a bit of a discovery mission. I wanted to experiment a bit and have changed them 3 times so far. Now that I know what I want I will paint them on.
Ok, well here we go. I bought a backup camera for my deck and I needed to run the video wire to the deck. Because of this i needed to remove the trunk carpet. Once I had the trunk carpet out I thought that I would sound deaden it at the same time.
Well since I was sound deadening the trunk...
...it all started with the purchase of a $40 backup camera. I needed to run the wires. Now I'm on my way to a full audio upgrade. Here is the progress so far
It sounds really good but it just is not loud enough. It is like the deck senses that the speakers are overdriven. I used a wiring harness and connected everything as per the instructions but maybe I need to connect the subs differently
Yup, exactly where I ran my wire. I need to find a switched power source in the trunk area though. My camera is intended to be connected to the backup light but my deck has the abilty to view the camera during driving. Was thinking the fuel pump. Any other ideas?
