RIP - You will be missed
So why are you sticking with your S197?
It's paid for and it's still fun to drive.

It works very well as a dual-purpose daily-drivable track toy even in its lightly modified condition. This month's Grassroots Motorsports magazine listed the S197 as one of their five track day picks for reliable lap running.

I'm not done tinkering with it.

It doesn't have many nannies. One of the ones it came with never worked worth a damn, another one doesn't work at all any more, and one was disabled in the second week I owned the car. I'm fine with that, prefer it that way actually.

It's fast enough for me (125-ish on the longest straight at the tracks I've run on), even though I know I could handle more speed and quite a bit more power. But I'd rather focus on dropping time through the corners than between them.

It's not even that hard on "consumables", now that I've upgraded the front brakes to the 4-piston Brembos.

It's paid for and it's still fun to drive.

I've owned 3 S197 GT's and it's all about the Body Style. Compared to a S550 I'm sure the S197 is Junk, but the S197 looks so much better.

The main reason I'm keeping my S197 is because I can't decide what I want my next car to be. I'd love an '18 S550, but equipped the way I want it, it'd be close to $50K. No thanks. So I have been window shopping everything from C6Z/Grand Sports, Challenger Scat Packs/SRTs, used 2015+ S550 GTs with the PP, and even E46 M3s. I lit'rally change my mind from one week to the next...

In the meantime, my car is paid for, plenty of power for me and what I do with it, still looks good, and I still get compliments on it all the time.

But I have had it for five years now, and I am pretty bored with it, so it may not be around that much longer.

Jessica is a mature woman. She has become everything I envisioned when we first met in 2007.

Though we had a few rocky times and some silly squabbles we have gotten past that. Our relationship now is pretty perfect. Spent a lot of time nurturing her and getting her to grow into the blossom she is.

I used to only pay attention to her on weekends but now she is my everyday companion. She still looks good, I think much better than the new lasses out there today. I think that she is getting a little upset with me lately though. She is starting to get the saggy panels and I don't keep her looking as good as she should, but we have brought another girl into our relationship. Kind of a mistress of sort. Her name is Brook.

Though they don't really like to play with each other, I get to play with them both. It works out well for me. I have had a few others in the past; a Lexus named Lucy and a little turbo vert named Summer (good name for a topless broad). Anyways, I think I will stay loyal to her until death do us part.

I don’t think anybody else has mentioned this but... my baby was my first car. I was very lucky to have my parents not only teach me the value of a dollar but let me feel the excitement of literally earning the value of a dollar and what it can do. I worked for minimum wage at my parents store from when I was 3 until I was 18 (then the recession hit and I worked to help them stay afloat). When i was 15 years old, 3 months before my 16th birthday i bought my 2006 Mustang GT. I think i was short about $4k and my parents made up the difference (Dad wasn’t letting me drive a V6).

This car is my first love. I went 145mph before i even had my license. I literally lost my virginity in the back of this car. Pretty much every woman that i ever loved has been in that car. This car has been there for the highest of highs, the depression, the alcoholism, every cross country move for work. You would have to pry the keys out of my dead lifeless hands.

I day dream of the day I finally get to do the long list of things I’ve always wanted to do to this car. Recessions, college loans, being fired, moving cross country, house loans, and babies have all kept me from doing what i want to this car and some day i will.

That’s why I will never sell my S197.

LOL! I hope not.
But if so, can I have first dibs on your wheels? I completely love those and I've never seen them anywhere except on the Dan Gurney special edition cars!

But seriously, it only has 48xxx miles, and I'm hoping I got another 50 years. Who knows, it could outlive me. Other than a few nagging CELs that pop up, and a little hesitation issue, it's been good to me. Probably should dyno tune it one of these days. And I basically stole those wheels from Saleen on eBay a few years ago. I dig them and like the fact that I haven't seen another one rolling on them.

Lito's tune should take care of it. After getting used to data logging and receiving remote tunes, I told myself I'm not spending any more money on dyno tunes. I had a hesitation issue that stayed even after the usual suspects were ruled out (dirty TB, plugs, coil boots, and even injectors & fuel pump) but a good tune fixed it. In my case it was a fueling issue.

Completely do-able. When I was doing the wiring for the nitrous kit I had my center console removed. Roll the front seats forward and fold the back rest forward. One leg to the passenger side, one leg to the driver side. Hammer away. No pesky center console to drag balls on.

I keep my 06 because it's paid for, and to get 500whp on a new car not only would I have to spend another 5k(ish), I would have a car payment (roughly for the next 5 years) for this new car.

I purchased mine in February, picked it up on my 43rd birthday, the day of my birthday, I like the body style more than the newer s550's. And I cant stand the idea of literally throwing 5k out the window as I drive off the dealer lot with a new car in the 50 k price range.
