I bought the MMD Hood Strut Kit from AM about 4 years ago. The air struts have started getting weak. (I discovered this when my Mustang decided to slam his hood on my forearm.)

I contacted AM about getting replacement struts; they told me I'd have to buy an entirely new kit, though they did offer to knock off a few bucks.

Does anyone know if you can buy replacement struts from Monroe or the like?

I used to use the Scott Drake /Shelby struts but they kept failing. They always replaced them for free (local company) but I finally just got tired of it. I bought the Ford Racing ones because I heard they were really good. Haven't had any issues with them.

FWIW I've had MRT struts on 3 cars. The set on our 06 is at least 5 years old and is going strong.

You can usually buy hood/liftgate struts at NAPA or other auto parts stores.
Just bring one of the old ones with you, to match it up

I bought replacements on Amazon for like $25. Just measure the length you need and the weight it needs to support.

One of my MMD struts blew after 6 months. Didn't bother calling AM about it because I knew what they were gonna say.
The OE struts on my 96 Cougar are still holding up. I'll see if the length and socket size match up.

Does anyone know how the factory prop rod is attached? I cannot locate the bolt or fastener for it anywhere. I want to reinstall it so I can remove the air struts and take them to the store.

The mounting tab is captured on the rod

Is there something that goes under that bolt for it to thread into?

EDIT: Also, there are no part numbers visible on the struts, which is why I'm going to have to remove them.

Factory prop rod is the bomb....100% reliable... no stress on anything.
