Hey guys I have a set of used hot rod cans to install on my 2006 4.6 L. My question is they have about 10,000 miles on them do I still need to break them in? Any points of interest that I should know about was putting the use camshafts in versus a new one?
Thanks
Joe

Just make sure all the surfaces and smooth and free of defects. There isn't much breakin. Other than making sure you didn't fuck up the install

Wes06 pretty much said it all. It might be a good idea while you're in there to do a full timing kit. Not sure how many hours on your motor, but Ford has made some updated phasers and VCT solenoids since 2006. Also make sure you use new cam bolts and follow torque specs.

Roller follower or roller tappet cams do not require a break-in.

Just clean it , lube it up with assembly lube, clean motor oil, or even gear oil and have at it.

I found these by finding a WTB thread for hot rods posted by another forum member, there were 3 guys who replied saying they had them, the guy I got mine from had not removed them from his car yet. So he basically had them sold to me before they were out of his car. I would recommend posting a WTB ad.

Cams are in and man do they sound awesome! Thanks guys! I just turned the crank until there was as little pressure on as few valves followers as possible then backed out the attaching bolts evenly across the cam and inserted the new cam and slowly tightened evenly then turned the motor by hand to verify everything was rockin and rollin like it should!

You DID use new phaser bolts didn't you?! If not you had better take it apart and put new ones in or you will be picking up pieces!

You sure make that sound easy.. lol. Now that i have most of my bolt ons installed im considering cams too. I notice a solid ticking in my valve train on one bank when cold. It is a must to be at operating temperature before any throttle application of half pedal or more. So, would you recommend replacing other valve train components along with the cam in that situation?
