So the season opener for NMRA is coming up the first weekend in March, and will be in my neck of the woods at Bradenton. I really want to run in Limited Street but my blower is not permitted and I don't have an extra $3k laying around to buy a legal blower so I'm exploring other options. I know how the True Street class works and my only reservation with that is I hate not being able to open the hood between rounds. All I would want to do is check the oil to make sure it's not a milk shake lol but that's not allowed. So I'm looking at Outlaw True Street, and I know non-Ford power is permitted in this class and it still has the same 30 mile cruise but it doesn't look like they have the 3 back to back passes thing with closed hood policy. Looks like heads-up 1/8 mile racing after the cruise, which looks interesting, if you're familiar with the OTS class please chime in and enlighten me!

Those are some pretty awesome events. Might be worth the trip down for me. I just drove from Jax to Fort Myers and back in one day last week, not sure I’d want to do that again in one day though.

That would be a lot of driving for one day for sure, heck what's that about a 6 hour trip each way? Then literally half the day you spent driving lol. I've driven to Gainsville and back the same day to see the Gator Nats' and that makes for one hell of a long day, and that's only 4 hours each way.

Gainesville is a little less than an hour south of me so it would depend on the traffic. Actually trying to go there for s test and tune soon so I can finally get my car a pass down the track.

Why don't they allow you to open the hood?
With it being a "true street" class, they want you to bring a car that can make 3 consecutive passes without needing adjustments or repairs, or needing ice in the intercooler, just like a real street car.
It is more of a fun event than a big money race. There definitely is some risk to it and that is why the class isn't flooded with tube chassis "street" cars with a pit crew thrashing on it between rounds.
I haven't paid much attention but they used to have prizes for the top runners, the closest to a 10.00, 11.00, 12.00, and 13.00 second average over your 3 runs. We did an event with similar rules locally and it was a lot of fun, weeded out a lot of thinly disguised race cars.

In index races like those people are usually well within a tenth of the bracket. Sometimes within a few thousandths of a second. Consistency is key.

Here is my thoughts/opinions on TS. I'll sum it up pretty easily. WASTE OF MONEY. Maybe if its close to you and wont have much expense getting there... Other than that I'm not a fan of it. Ive ran it a few times at a couple different NMRA events. The TS guys always get shit on. We pay $100 for 5 hits. Two of them are worth while since you have time, can make changes etc. The track usually sucks for TS especially during the 3 back to back hits.

Outlaw TS. Ive never seen more than a handful of cars in it. Also they are starting to push the quicker TS guys into Outlaw TS. So it may grow. I'm not familiar with the Outlaw program. As far as their hits, how many, and what the rules are on them.

I hear you man, makes sense. Thanks for sharing your experience with it. I was just looking for something heads up to participate in, since index racing sucks IMO. But I'm going to end up running in MM again this year I'm sure, due to the situation with my blower. Maybe I can get into LS next year, or possibly later this year even if I'm lucky.

I wish they would do something with TS. Make it some sort of heads up program.

That would be cool, still have the cars make the cruise and everything but then do some real heads up racing afterward. I guess they kind of do that at the Spring Break Shootout, IIRC they pick the fastest cars from the TS class and invite them to compete in the SBS, heads up. Too bad you have to compete in the TS class first or else I would be all over that.
