hey guys, so im in the process of rebuilding my shortblock and will be using headstuds this time and running more boost. The heads have never been touched and I would like to install new valve seals and springs. does anyone have good recommendations as far as what I should use for valve springs and seals if I plan to reuse stock cams but will be pushing 14-18 pounds of boost with a turbo

sweet, thanks. what about the valves themselves? are they a weak point I should replace or are the stock ones okay?

PAC Racing makes a set of springs specifically for boosted 3V applications. They are the right diameters for use with the stock retainers, and the right height so you don't have to use a bunch of shims to get the right seat pressure. I believe the part number is 1233 but I'd call and check before ordering.

JDM Engineering uses these springs in their "Sterling" cam upgrade

These will drop right in and work well with the VCT and are under $200.

Those are stock spec springs, not worth the trouble to swap them in.

The PAC 1233-24 are for a boosted application, they also work with the stock retainers.

The PAC-1233 work up to .550 max lift if you decide to go with a more aggressive cam ...

Comp springs weren't really designed for the 3V head... They just happen to work. But most builders find that they have to use quite a few shims to get the right height and seat pressure... Not to mention you have to buy their (Comp) retainers.

I've had a set of those and a set of low mile stockers and tested a few on the valve spring tester and they are not even close to the same.
Stockers had 60 lbs on the seat (I used 1.65" for my baseline), the TFS had 86. At .500 lift (1.15" height), the stockers were 130 ish, the TFS were 177.

Where did you get your information from?

And for further information, The PAC Springs you listed (Identical to TFS 15410's) tested 115 lbs at 1.65" and 247 lbs at 1.15" which is just asking for trouble with your VCT, some get away with it, some don't.

I've had no trouble with the PAC springs, but I am also running phaser limiters.

Again... JDM Engineering uses these springs in their packages... No telling how many cars are out there running them.

turbo is a 67mm garret, and I may just leave the stock ones in it at this point. I just want to get the heads gone through and checked before I put them back on my new shortblock

Garret makes good stuff. Not sure what your goals are or your plans but if you want to step up in your turbo I've got a PTE 7675 gen2 GT42.

It's a serious piece.

Regardless, I'm jealous. I had plans fur this turbo but they were canceled after I broke my motor.

This one was making a little more than 1100 thru a glide on a coyote when it got pulled off. A non GT42 version makes around 900 @ 22-23 on E85. I do have someone interested in it but he's looking at buying it in a few months possibly.

Hit me up later if you change your mind. I'm in no rush.it's just sitting in my cabinet.

My only suggestion for your build is try to run E85. I might switch on this go around.
