The more tech and features cars get, the more I just want to daily a 1966 Ford Fairlane with a 390.

Same here. I'd rather have a raw visceral experience...with air conditioning most of the time. Fast cars should be dangerous, on the edge of being under control, They shouldn't ask for your attention when you drive them, they should demand your attention and punish you for not paying attention.

Nothing is dangerous or raw about new cars.

There's plenty danger with 750+ HP cars.

You want danger then try the old Fuel Alters. Short wheel base, high HP, full 1/4 mile run.

If you want high hp /tq...on a budget, buy a used stang, then add your favorite blower of the week. Maybe some suspension tweaks,
bigger wheels + tires all around, better brakes if it didn't come with em. Then call it a day. For street use, with typ street tires, like say MPSS, much > 500 rwhp is gonna be overkill anyway. You would still get up to 100 mph on the hwy pretty damn quick. 600-750 rwhp on the street is silly...and dangerous at best. I know at least 2 guys here in town, who bought new 2014 GT-500's.... then sold em less than a year later. And they both had older 07/09 GT-500's before that, (bought new back in 07/09)... so it's not like they had zero experience. Apparently the 2014 GT-500 was a handful for both of em in the dry.... and a real mess in the wet. They both only used em from May 1 to end of Sept...dd use, town and hwys, long trips etc.

Main reason the '13-'14 GT500 is such a handful? The tires. The car's got enough power from the factory that it needs a drag radial at the back. Those Goodyears are horrible.

My wife's GT500 is at 656/661 and always on drag radials, it's a blast.

I don't think there is a manual transmission that will live behind the power that these engines make.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: Dual-Clutch or 10-Speed Automatic? - Motor Trend https://apple.news/AIEauUi2aS0G4LU8h2Mcr2A

If they go with the dual clutch Getrag like what's in the Ford GT, not sure how much drag strip abuse it will take. As that trans is used to road racing loads not instant shock loads from drag racing. Now the 10speed auto that Ford and GM is in cahoots with and the abuse that Beefcake Racing and Lund is working on may be a better way to go. At the last NMRA I talked with Terrys guys and with Lund tuning the trans the trans is stone stock and it did a 9.26 not bad.

It would be interesting to see how the 10 speed automatic would perform, IF using paddle shifter's....on a road course.

The GT500 doesn't seem like a road coarse car to me. Seems like it would be like using a machete to perform brain surgery. Or a 10 pound sledge hammer to drive finishing nails.
