If you do them in vinyl and don't like the color after its done its cheaper and easier to have them redone. If they get damaged it's cheaper and easier to repair IMHO. A good vinyl wrap expert will do those stripes and there will be NO areas where they stop short. Everything will be tucked. Also a good vinyl expert has been certified through training with the various brands of vinyl available. Avery, 3M, and Oracal all offer formal training on use of their product. A good vinyl person will be certified in the brands he/sje carries.
I made the mistake of going cheap on my stripes the first go around. The installer had never been certified and used the wrong type of cut tape (there are different types for different types of vinyl) and the entire job looked hacked. The edges were all jagged and they never properly prepped the surface so the edges also started lifting. I did some research and found a guy that is fully trained and certified. He showed me why I was having problems by demonstrating with the brand they used and the wrong cut tape vs the correct cut tape. I ended up going with Oracal for two reasons. They are heavily used in the boating industry which means they have a better adhesion backing and they had a color I really liked that popped. Had no issues with these stripes and the extra cost was well worth it in the end. Not many vinyl people are certified with Oracal. But the ones that are will be good.
Be specific in every regard even down to the gap between the stripes. Get it all in writing including the warranty. Don't let anything go unsaid or assumed before they start. Bumper to bumper does not mean the same to one person as it does another. And make sure they remove anything that they plan to tuck under (deck lid panels, grills, spoilers, etc.). If they just stop at the edge it will eventually shrink a bit and there will be a gap. While the factory GT500 stripe kit has those distinct gaps at the front and back of the roof, trunk and bumper areas, a good vinyl guy if told to tuck will assure that this flows nicely and won't lift afterward.
