Be CAREFUL you don't accidentally put too much load on the trans in OD.

About an hour ago I barely gave it any gas going around a moron today about 40mph. Pretty sure I broke my stub shaft in the process.

With my 410's (was going back to 3.73 this weed) I usually cruise in OD at around 50 as the rpm is silly otherwise, and dont want to lock the converter. Forgot it was in OD and felt it unload a snap and now do not have 3rd or OD. Will still actually move in third but it feels like it never shifts out of 2nd (manual valve body tho).

1, 2nd and reverse are fine. I limped it home the 4 miles or so and parked it. Long ass weekend so will start taking it apart next weekend and rebuild it I suppose.

That really sucks to hear. I will keep your advice in the back of my head.

lol.. yeah will be more careful n the future for sure. Had I gone back to 3.73 earlier I would not be using the damn od except on highway but the 4.10's were stupid low with this gearset so I was suckered into it.. maybe just should not have been using it or driving it around on 4.10's.

lesson learned... Just hope shit did not go thru and totally destroy the rest of the trans. Guess I will see but was not ready to pull the damn thing as it was running so great and was about to have an excellent weekend tuning at the end of the month. Not going to happen unless I can work some miracles.. running out of time

Come on now! If I can rebuild a motor, change rear gears, and install a anti roll bar and break in the motor before the 28th, surely you can fix a trans...LOL

There is a really good trans guy here in town that builds some wicked stuff so will try to make that happen. That or maybe I will just tear it down myself. Going to order another 300m drum and stub tonight and pull the trans Thursday morning before work.

I will get this bitch done one way or another lol! And yes.. I will be bringing a trailer down there for tuning... this was convincing enough!

Jim, pull it and tear it down. If you haven't taken a 4r apart, check out the youtube videos. Really pretty simple to do. At least you'll know what you'll need. And a hardened stub shaft should go in, regardless.

Will do lol. That is a good idea. I am still going to have them inspect everything in case my untrained eye misses something. I do have the 4r manual and have watched that great video several times

well I guess it could be taller in areas near the middle and rear but if you think about it the bolt pattern and surrounding is identical

I'll show you where I think I'll have clearance issues and give me your input. These pics are on a 6060 transmission and I am trying to determine if the piping and turbo's will clear a 4r70w

well the two pics of the tubing under the corner of the oil pan looks like they would clear. You can dimple that if you have to. Its so close to the flexplate area, as I said earlier. I cant see how the 6060 tranny could be any bigger...after all its housing just the flex plate. The area that tough to tell is the one down pipe going in the AR of the passenger side turbo The 4R70 could be wider there. not saying I think it is wider, just saying tough to tell on that one. Just bolt it all up and bolt it from the other end and if it don't fit get the pipe extended. One thing about a turbo you can always have the pipes modified.

Yeah my main concern would be the actually location of the turbo's and those hitting the bell housing

Bringing this back from the dead. Has anyone else used a toggle switch for overdrive instead of running a momentary switch? How would this affect reverse and transbrake functions?
Would't you have to use a toggle switch for OD unless you have some kind of controller?

The Freddy Brown 4r70 comes with a relay pack to bypass the computer controls when going full manual VB. The stock setup has a momentary switch wired in for a trans brake/OD/reverse. Pushing the button activates the t-brake in the 1st gear position, OD when it's in 3rd, and reverse when it's in reverse. That is all fine untill I have to be on the interstate for more than a few exits which means I have to hold the button down to be in 4th. I am seeing if there's a way to use a toggle switch for OD instead of running everything through this momentary switch and it looks like OP has done this. My question is how, and if I use the toggle switch will it affect the other functions in any way?

edit: I just re-read the original post and his trans was a custom 4r from Jerry Wrobleski/Darrin with PA and FB parts mixed in. So what I'm trying to do may not even work with a Freddy Brown trans.

Maybe I'm being dense, you have to hold the momentary down with the FB auto-reset controller to keep OD active? It uses the same monetary for TB, reverse, and OD?
