The lighting for one ;)

The scoring on the interior. It’s cam sprocket I take it?

Isn’t there supposed to be a dowel there? Did it sheer off on you?

Yep. Been struggling to figure out why she just wasn't running right. Intermittent issues for months. A/F off at random times, running right then fine again. Only once did I get a cam position code. Pulled the cam cover twice to look for issues. Changed sensor and solenoid on that side. When I couldn't figure it out I decided to get a new timing set. Didn't discover this until I pulled it off the motor.

Almost done putting her back together so hopefully I will take her out for a short shakedown cruise this evening.

Damn that’s crazy, at least you didn’t wipe any valves/pistons out! You’re lucky in that sence. I love these cars but I hate how problematic the valvetrain can be in these motors. Makes me miss my 5.0 sometimes.

Almost all put back together. Had to jet to work for a couple of hours but I ought to get the fan, tanks, TB, intake installed, and refill all the fluids by this evening and take her out for a quick test spin.

Just out of curiosity did you find the pin? If so where was it?

Nope, never did see a pin. Changed the oil twice since the issue began and putting new oil in today. Already dropped my oil bucket off so I can't run it through a strainer. Could have come out with one of oil changes. Could be still in the pan. Could be still floating around in the motor somewhere.

Can't believe I'm missing one effin hose clamp. I'm pretty organized when I disassemble shit. Little baggies with labels. Just so frustrating.

Had something like that happen with the second phaser that we put in the car. It randomly started running like shit. When I pulled the valve cover off the unwound portion of the spring was facing the timing cover. Think it was the third time we had it off that I saw the spring. The pin that holds it had sheared.

Well the valve train and cams seem to be running smoothly. But I am still having issues with my A/F ratio. Seems start up and initial driving it stays pegged at 10.0 so it is running pig rich. Then a little way down the road it jumps to 14.3-14.7 and just stays there. It doesn't change regardless of throttle position, manifold pressure or engine load. She threw the 0171 and 0174 codes after a couple of quick pulls to see if she was adding enough fuel. I cleared the codes and drove her to work this morning. No codes but A/F stayed rock steady at 14.3 and never really flinched. I did go over all intake connections and checked all vacuum lines and ports. Next I think I'm going to clean the MAF, but I do that pretty regularly anyways. Changed the fuel filter about a month ago.

I was have this issue before and when I discovered my cam phaser was out I figured that maybe the ugly A?F readings were due to improper cam timing. I guess I was having two separate issues at the same time.
