    Hood vibrations

The pre-2010 S197's were definitely worse, but the later ones still did it a little. It's noticeable once you're over 100.

    Hood vibrations

Yup, assuming it's barely noticeable, this is normal. Real hood louvers will fix this, but it's nothing to worry about.

Quick Advice Needed for VCT DTC's

I have a 2011 GT that is exclusively a track (TT) car, and after 12 years of beating on it, I finally had an engine issue this past weekend. The car was fine for the first 20-30 min of driving, and then I noticed that the exhaust suddenly sounded louder and had a different tone. It sounded like...

    tire review help

In that list, I've used NT05's and PS4S's. I used NT05's on my Mustang when I was daily-driving it and doing track days, and I wouldn't buy them again. The dry grip wasn't spectacular when I used them 10 years ago, and other tires in their class are WAY better than them now. The wet grip was...

    Tire Selection for NASA TT

Thank a lot! I still lurk around here, but unfortunately the content (at least in this section of the forum) has really dried up over the last few years. I also took a break last year due other stuff that needed my money/attention (houses are f**king expensive), so I've been a little...

Trouble getting power down out of corners

I have a 2011 GT. There are too many mods to list, but the main ones are 335mm A7's and fairly aggressive aero mods. For suspension, I'm currently running 1000/500 springs and MCS 2WNR shocks.

Trouble getting power down out of corners

Unfortunately, I think it'll be challenge to make an S197 really competitive in ST4, but at least the live-axle bonus you get next year will help a little. I've been competing in TT3 for the last 5 years, have dumped a lot of time and money into my car, and I still get smoked by Corvettes at...

    LCAs relocation brackets necessary?

While it is true that relocation brackets will make the rear suspension geometry "better" with a lowered car, it might only matter in specific applications. I used the factory LCAs for ~5 years after lowering my car, and it's a track car with occasional street use. I finally installed...

    Leaking... Driveshaft?

I had this happen to me too, and my car was also lowered ~2" at the time. I'm not exactly sure when it happened; I just noticed the grease when I was pulling the transmission. I replaced the driveshaft with a one-piece aftermarket model and haven't had any problems since 2015 when this happened.

When Advancetrac is turned off, is it really off?

Interesting, I wonder if I've never had an issue like that because I've never had tires that could achieve more than ~0.65g forward acceleration. Even when hot, road-race slicks will just spin before your car goes much beyond that, and without ESC the car will totally let you slide into a wall...

    Rear Ride Height Adjustment Kits

I've been using the Vorshlag setup for the last 5 years and it works fine. The only thing I changed was putting tender springs in series because I had a spring come loose after going over a large bump once. Since that change, I have no complaints. A huge benefit over coilovers is it's super...

When Advancetrac is turned off, is it really off?

What is the functional difference between disconnecting the ABS wire and turning off stability control using the method described in this thread? With ESC turned off using the traditional method, I've never noticed any kind of intervening on track (road courses, not 1/4, but I'm not sure why 1/4...

    Track Day Videos

I have an AiM Smartycam, and it automatically overlays the telemetry as it records video. It's a bit expensive, but it's much easier than manually adding the data to the video afterward.

    Traction Control/ABS Issues at Thunderbolt

Just to be sure we're understanding your problem correctly: - Have you ONLY had this issue in corners at Thunderbolt? - I assume this car is still street-driven? If so, did you have this issue at all before or after going to the track? - When you say you turned AdvanceTrac on and off while on...

    Traction Control/ABS Issues at Thunderbolt

Are you leaving stability control on? That can definitely make it feel like the brakes are randomly engaging (because they are). However, I'd be surprised if the brake lights also turn on. I guess it's possible but I've never been told either way if that's true. As mentioned, the tune seems...

New guy, no "track times" thread?

They're measuring the actual tire width on your car using a metal template similar to the one in Terry's picture under the ST4 tire rules in his post. Here is a thread with some examples of working combinations...

New guy, no "track times" thread?

I didn't get into the 1:32's until last year, and that was after a lot of car and driver development. If you think that's fast... the Pro Course track record for my class (TT3) is a 1:31.1 set by a pretty well developed Corvette many years ago. The ST3 record was reset at nationals last year...

New guy, no "track times" thread?

This is really helpful feedback, and it's not the first time I've heard people say similar things about the recent changes. I'll try to relay this to somebody who has more control over the program if you don't mind. Yeah, it gets a little busy with 45 cars on track and that's why the warm-up...

    Tire Selection for NASA TT

UPDATE I experimented a little more with the 345/35R18 vs 335/30R18 and I think I'll stick with the 335/30R18 unless I really need the taller gearing. Maybe I just can't get used to it, but after adjusting the suspension for the two tires, the car just feels more nimble and easier to drive with...

New guy, no "track times" thread?

Actually, I'm curious to learn what you've heard about it. It might be good feedback for the guys who run the program in our region. The HPDE ladder in the Great Lakes region has actually changed quite a bit since I started in TT back in 2014. At the time, you just needed to show basic...

New guy, no "track times" thread?

Welcome. I'm also in Ohio and have been driving in NASA TT in the Great Lakes region for the last 6 years. Unfortunately this forum has been pretty dead for the last couple years, but there is a lot of good info if you do some digging. Feel free to post any questions for which you're struggling...

    Tire Selection for NASA TT

UPDATE I tried the 335/30R18 front and 345/35R18 rear setup this past weekend at Mid-Ohio, and... I don't think it really works for my car. I think it can be a little faster on certain cars on certain tracks, but I'm pretty sure I'll be switching back to a 335/30R18 on the rear. I had a...
