OEM mufflers with long tubes sound great and have significantly less resonance than any aftermarket muffler. I'm currently running that setup except I have cats. Still relatively loud too but it's now quiet enough I can let the car warm up in the morning without waking all the neighbors.

When I did mine a few years ago I was able to push the tie rods down just enough to get those front bolts out, barely. I didn't remove anything. Was still a pain in the ass job though.

Just wondering, but are those tailpipes all one piece? It looks like the tailpipes have been welded on. If so they will have to be cut to be installed, in which case I'd definitely recommend taking to to an exhaust shop.

My job was moved, from being 10 min from my house to a 20 min highway commute. I've taken the car a few times and between putting factory mufflers back on and the sound deadening, it's much nicer to drive on the highway now. I need to do the doors someday.

I'd look on one of the Ford parts sites like Tasca, they have diagrams in the part categories that (usually) make it pretty easy to find what you're looking for.

I kept my stock mounts and shimmed them up 1/4", don't know if I needed the clearance but I did it anyway. I have had no clearance issues whatsoever. Stock mounts have 106K on them now and still doing good!

Trust me I wouldn't be driving it far on a compact spare.

You can find spares from newer cars on ebay...some say they are 18", I'm actually not even sure if any of them are 19", but they are $300-400 so I guess I'll just take my chances with my 17" spare.
