'14 GT Automatic - drag racing results from a few simple mods

Sorry for the delay. Crazy life since buying the GT500. I don't really want to thrash the GT500, but I've found some drag tests for 2011-12 GT500's to get a rough idea. Bone stock with drag radials seems to put them in the mid-11's at about 123 mph, so it should be similar to my '14 GT to the...

I am hopeful that whoever bought my '14 GT will continue to mod it. Perhaps I can find him/her, and encourage membership here to document further improvements.

Had to sell my '16 Challenger Scat Pack, as well, to make room for the GT500. Here's a pic I took of both just before I sold the Dodge....

Sorry for the delay. I've posted a few below.

'14 GT Automatic - drag racing results from a few simple mods

I've been away for a long time. First post here in nearly a year. I traded the '14 GT for a low mileage, mint condition '11 GT500 a couple weeks ago. My '14 GT was just resold a couple days ago in Tacoma, WA. Most of the mods went with the car (converter, gears, tuner, etc.). Hopefully, the...

'14 GT Automatic - drag racing results from a few simple mods

My quickest passes (mid 11.40's to low 11.50's) have been with 20 minutes of weight reduction before going to the track. I remove the front passenger, rear seat, spare tire/jack, trunk liner, and strut tower brace. I run with 1/3 tank of gas. That 20 minute ritual drops about 200 lbs. When...

'14 GT Automatic - drag racing results from a few simple mods

Skaarlaj explained it pretty well. The magic of a big stall converter is the "flash" in rpm's that you get as that is what maximizes the launch. A big STR (stall torque ratio) helps multiply torque on launch, as well (you don't get that with a manual trans!). My converter's STR is close to 2:1...

Thank you. I can usually post .0XX RT's, with the occasional .1XX to keep me humble. I leave on the 3rd amber light (if I'm holding 1500 rpm's against the brakes) and just before the 3rd amber light if I'm launching off idle. After 35 years of drag racing, I've only cut a perfect .000 light...

Thank you. I haven't touched the suspension on my '14 yet.

Thanks. We technically have two more race days this month, but the weather will likely be rainy and my drag radials are shot (I was cooking them hard to fight for traction due to the poor track prep Friday), so my season is done and I'm so pleased to go out on that high note with this car. I...

'14 GT Automatic - drag racing results from a few simple mods

Yesterday was my last race day of the season and I was bound & determined to run in the 11.40's - under the threshold for a rollbar. Previous best run was an 11.51 and 11.52. Only change since those passes was a change to Royal Purple engine oil. DA was around 300' above sea level. Race...

Thanks, Terry! That's my soon-to-be son-in-law's 2008 Bullitt behind me in the staging lanes in the pic above. He has read plenty about your car and he is itchin' to supercharge his Bullitt. He's marrying my oldest daughter next year and has a wedding to get through before he can have a...

spark plug gap for NA motor lightly modded with SOS coils

Well, I can't conclusively say that the OEM Coyote coils are any better than the aftermarket coils - either in terms of power or reliability. Time will tell in my car. With my 3V, I had 2 aftermarket coils fail in the first year. I've had the aftermarket coils in my Coyote for 1.5 years with...

'14 GT Automatic - drag racing results from a few simple mods

It's amazing how often people look under my hood in the staging lanes and pits at our local drag strips after I click off an 11.50 or 11.60 and they look for a blower, turbo, or nitrous and find nothing but a stock engine. Then they notice the factory airbox and are dumbfounded. I've even had...

Happy to do my part! And thank you again for pointing out that I had omitted the coil-on-plug data. And, for anyone who's curious, the coils I went with are from GMS. I used them with good results on my Vortech-supercharged 2007 Mustang GT, so I was hoping I'd see some benefit on my Coyote.

I ditched my cats long ago, so I hope I still see some sort of meaningful gains going with LT headers. I'd like to think that they'd be worth 2 tenths and 1-2 mph in the 1/4 mile. I guess it'll be next spring before I know for sure!

So, in the interest of full disclosure and keeping fellow drag racers from wasting money, allow me to fess up about a mod I did awhile ago that did not work as advertised. Thank you to FourDegrees11 for getting me to come forward with this info in a separate thread elsewhere here in the...

spark plug gap for NA motor lightly modded with SOS coils

I installed aftermarket coils in my '14 GT in early 2016 and still have them in the car. They have worked flawlessly and the car does idle smoother. I have back-to-back data from the dragstrip with & without them on two days that were identical weather with the same Density Altitude. I chose not...

spark plug gap for NA motor lightly modded with SOS coils

NA, I've had best luck with aftermarket coils with spark plug gaps around .040." Good blend of smooth idle/cruise and power. Supercharged and WOT, .050" to .055" has worked well for me. All in all, there is very minimal gain with an aftermarket coil NA. I do, however, really like them with...

Thank you! We live in great times when there are so many 11 & 12 second cars available from the manufacturers, whether we're talking musclecars like our Camaros, Challengers, and Mustangs, or luxury cars like the Tesla Model S, AMG's, Cadillac V cars, BMW M cars, etc. These are certainly the...

Driver mod, FTW. I think a lot of people get that adrenaline rush and just mash the loud pedal and spin the tires, especially on street tires. So they take 12 second capable cars and turn them into 13 second cars (or worse!). Good thing that guys like you and I can show them what's possible!

Your '06 is such a great car for bracket racing and I know you have the driver mod that so many other people lack! It'll be interesting to see how your '16 progresses. You could put together a build & progress thread for the '16. First mod for your '16 (after traction) should be a big...

'14 GT Automatic - drag racing results from a few simple mods

Thanks! I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to give my friend the 12 second timeslips he was hoping for in his '17 due to the traction limitation of the crappy factory Pirelli tires. The factory line lock works decently and I cooked the tires. They hooked way better than I expected...
