New A6 2012. What rear gears to get?

Tune Tires Off Road X-Pipe (You'll want GT500 muffs not the Roush noise makers) The car will go high 11s in decent air. August in the South? Maybe not. Put an aftermarket converter in it, it'll go 11s anytime, anywhere there is a decent starting line.

3:73 OR 4:10 what do you guys think?

Maybe it would be better only using 3 gears. How would we know? Like I said, whatever makes you happy.

3:73 OR 4:10 what do you guys think?

If you are trying to do it with 3 gears, you need to spin it high. If you are using 4th gear, you can drop the shift points if you want to. You also drop the RPM after the shift and spend more time climbing out of the basement, but whatever makes you happy...

3:73 OR 4:10 what do you guys think?

The math for 3.55s and a 30" tall radial slick (Stock Eliminator tire {*/SA}) works out for the top of third, if you shift at 7600+... ETA: Danner already covered it above...

Probably just in the muffler. Toss the stock ones back on and go for a ride, see if it smokes. Do the plugs look good?

3:73 OR 4:10 what do you guys think?

3.31s will put you at 7500ish in 3rd at the stripe, on 28" tires. 3.55s will do it with a 30" tire at a touch more RPM. 4.30s will do it in 4th with a 28" tire. More gear equals harder to get traction. JPC just had a 2011+ A6 go 10.78 in the 1/4 with 4.10s, on 28s...

CasperGT Bolt On Auto N/A 10.78 Pass

That converter is best described as "sloppy." It's the most I would want as a street car. The 3.15s are really not enough gear if you are in hilly terrain, like me.
