I assumed that's one of the reasons for the sign, so........

FWIW the username and date isn't enforced much on car sales. The reason why is because anyone could put a sign on any car and declare it to be theirs. Also, not too many people are going to buy a car without looking at it in person and nobody is going to buy a car based on stock photos pulled off the internet. Small parts are a whole different category when it comes to scammers.

It's always in the sellers best interest to post photos of what they are selling just in case they run across a buyer who is going to try for a discount after the deal. It's pretty hard to argue against a pic of what was advertised when it has a username and date in it.
