So I decided to change out a switch I didn't like (motion) in my family room to a plain old on/off. I bought a 3 way switch. These are the wires I have.

W1 and W2 are currently tied together. I thought that R1 went to A, B1 went to B, B2 went to C and of course both G wires to D (not currently hooked up). This did not make the light turn on.

Who has an idea of what I'm missing?

You need to find the hot leg first. That wire will go on the odd colored screw on the 3way. The other 2 wires are called travelers and can go on the other 2 screws. Usually the switch has 2 silver and 1 brass screw.

Is there another 3way switch in another location?

Edit:

Need more info about why is there a 3 wire in the first place.

Well turned out there was no other switch to control the light/fan. Couldn't find anything else connected to the switch either. My friend stopped over and looked at it and we put a normal 2-way switch in and problem solved. Lightworks same as before.

This is the second home we've had with wire routing that makes no sense to me. Circuits connected to things you don't expect and such.
