I'm supercharging soon (thinking the VMP Gen3 2650), and I realize the most I can push on the stock motor is around 650ish to the wheel. Say I wanted to take it to the next level, what does the 12' motor need to handle higher HP? And what kind of HP could I expect from the blower and a forged motor?

I have a budget of around 15k, so I'm not sure if it's even possible to do the blower and motor with that amount of money.

I would not do this. Either run what the engine can tolerate or get a GT500. Or a slightly newer GT which can hack 800 or so, for a while. I suppose you could drop in a ~14-15 truck shortblock. I forget the differences. Something about boss-tech rods I guess.

    Above that it's sleeving, right?

I think I'm going to use Kevin at Wicked Motorsports.

What kind of power can that block handle?

And what kind of money could I get for my Stock block w 20k miles.

if your paying all the labor, then that $15K is probably not enough, labor's gonna add a few thousand IMO

IIRC, there have been guys running 1000 on those blocks

If I can offset some of the cost with selling my stock block, it may work out.

How much HP are you looking to make John? AM has that block setup for 5876.00

I don't have a number in my head of what I want to make. Honestly, I'd probably be more than happy with what the blower can do on the stock block. I think I'm heading over to Toms River Friday, and will stop by Wicked Motorsports and talk with Kevin and hear his thoughts.

That block from AM looks tempting, even more tempting with the 6% off coupon code. I'm not sure how the stock trans and clutch would hold up to insane horsepower.

650 horsepower is a more power than most of what you'll run into on the street, not to mention it's enough to ruin your day if you're careless. Maybe do a turbo kit and some drivetrain upgrades and call it a day. If the 3v could make 650 on a stock block I would never build my engine, I'd run them till I popped it and get another from the junk yard to do it all over again, lol.

Why do you suggest the turbo over the supercharger?

I was going to ask Kevin on his opinion of the Hellion twin turbo kit.

I spoke with the guys from Beefcake Racing and they say that the turbos are easier on the engine parts. With the exhaust driving the turbos, not the crankshaft, you don't get the shock through the engine.

I wouldn't bother with a complete motor build.

Do rods/pistons, if it was me, I would sleeve it.

This, you can make a lot more power safely, they don't suck up horsepower to make power. The crank takes a beating from a supercharger of any sort, as well as the rods and bearings.

Well I had planned to speak w Kevin at Wicked Motorsports Friday. I texted him Thursday and told him I was coming to the shop the next day. He never replied. I drove to his shop on Friday w a 10k cash deposit, doors were locked he wasn't there. I texted him again saying "Hello". He texted me immediately saying he was at his engine builders for the day, and can he call me on his way him a little later on. I said sure. Well, he never called.

    Not a great first impression.

It’s been a long time, but I had not heard good things about him and the work he did. Meet him a couple of time 8-9 years ago or so at the track when Di Feio Ford sponsored track days at Etown.

Good suggestion. He’s not far from south jersey.

I’d suggest L&M, but last I heard, they aren’t doing R&Rs any more.
