Gear Confusion

05 gt auto stk cams 3000 stall. I was going to run 4.30's. (not everyday car) Was told to steep with 5r55s. 2nd to 3rd to close ratio. Was also told no more than 3.73's. Ideal for 5r55s stays perfect in power band. I currently run a 26" tall tire but was going to change to a 28. May also add a dry kit (100 hp) in the future. Opinions please?

4.30's would go well with that combo specially running a 28" tire.

Calculating the tire into the equation 4.30's = 4.10's

I think most will tell you to go for it, for a non- daily driver.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. But Doug at Bama said his car slowed down with 4.10's. I've already gone 12.80's with the 3.31's and can't even imagine the car slowing down. He has a point though with the close ratio 2nd to 3rd shift.

I just switched over to 3.73's from my 4.10's and my car actually feels faster now. Some of it is from a retune, but I think that at least with my setup, the 3.73's was a better fit. I also don't have a converter though.

with the stall the taller gear will get you out of the hole faster, with the 28" tall tire 4.10s would be close to 3.73 so I say go 4.10 I am 3 tenths away from 11's N/A and Automatic.

That's why I pm'd you. I now noticed that you did switch to the larger tire. Were the Mickey's not hook'n with the converter?

My tires were BFG DR 275/40 17 and I wore them out.
I picked up the M&H at a real good price. I ran my quickest time without the TC with the 25.6 tall tires 12.41.

Now with the taller 28" tall and TC my quickest was 12.29 so I am not sure about my overall performance since I have only run this combo about 10 times so I think there is a learning curve....
