Long Tube Headers and Emissions?

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to get some long tube headers with an H pipe, but my main concern is passing emissions testing after. Does anyone have experience with this? I assume my best bet would be to get a catted mid pipe and make sure the tuner leaves the rear 02 sensors on. I read that the spark plug non fouler trick doesnt work 100%

I was leaning towards JBA since they are one of the few that offer a H pipe. Not overly concerned with gains mainly looking for that low muscle car tone. I traded in my 08 GT with Pypes LTs w/Hpipe for my '12 5.0 and I miss that sound like crazy lol.

Thanks for any and all advice in advance.

I see you are in Texas.

As long as you have cats on the car, you should pass without any issues. I'm not sure how stringent your county is there in Kingwood, but I'm sure that all that they will do is visually verify that you have cats (if they are really a-holes) and as long as your car isn't throwing any codes, you should be good to go.

Thanks Nichols. I was assured by Fastlane in Houston that they have installed kooks headers on 5.0s and tuned them and have never seen one not pass emissions. Does anyone know if the kooks easier to tune for emissions or something? Thank you

I have the jba longtubes and off road h pipe. The o/r version required me to cut the cutback portion a bit, I have heard a couple of others having to do the same thing. So reasearch on the catted version to see if it requires the same. Its like the measured it wrong. It was the length of one of the flanges to long (where it meets up to the lts).

As long as your not throwing a code, or the rear 02's are not turned off in the tune...you should be fine.

Thanks guys I purchased a set of Kooks 7/8 headers with a catted H pipe. Bought them while Lethal Performance had that 10% off sale and saved $150ish. Just need to save up to have them installed now, and buy a tuner/tune for them.

When I was living out in El Paso TX, they had the emissions tailpipe sniffer test. Using my regular everyday driving tune, I wouldn't pass. So my tuner provided me with a tune that I only used once a year when it was time for the emissions check.

I'd roll into the facility parking lot, change my tune, take a quick spin around the block, and let them test. It passed, and I just reflashed the car.

I maybe a little late to this thread but I cant seem to get my car to pass inspection with stainless works long tubes. My car wont set the drive cycle and I cant figure out why it wont. I have SW 1 7/8ths long tubes, high flow cats, boss intake, and a converter. My inspection has been out since aug. of last year.

Its all in the tune, a good dyno tuner can make this a non issue. Contact your tuner, if its a mail order tune, good luck.

Are you running a email or dyno tune? I was running a email tune but had to switch to a dyno tuner to resolve this issue. Check with the tuners in your area or check out some local mustang club websites.

On my 07 I had to have the rear O2s turned on to pass emissions. So I had a tune just for emissions. I had ARHs with high flow cats.
