I recently ordered a lot of parts in the wake of recent events. I've been languishing over building or buying an AR15 for years but my hand has been forced. Prices are getting soooo ridiculous that I decided to assemble my own over time.

    Build #1

U.S. Firearms Academy BB-16 milled, stripped lower receiver, Palmetto State Armory lower parts kit and CMMG standard trigger group:

    Build #2

LRB Arms M15SA strippe lower receiver, complete PSA LPK

(Someone else's photo; mine is still in the mail, pics when assembled)

    Plans for #1:

    16" 4150 barrel
    13" Troy Alpha rail
    Low profile gas block
    A3 upper
    Daniel Defense BCG
    ARMS #71 flip sights
    A2 buttstock

    Plans for #2:

    16" 4150 barrel 1:7 twist
    13" Troy Alpha rail
    Low profile gas block
    A3 upper
    Daniel Defense BCG
    ARMS flip sights
    ACE ARFX stock

Not much of an update but I got a few 30 round magazines in and performed a flawless mag release function test!

I don't mean / want to hijack this thread but how does one learn to build an ar? How much should I expect to spend?

Price depends on quality of parts and obviously price of parts. Right now it's going to cost you a lot more to find stuff than if you wait a few months for all this to die down. Before panic, about $600-700 would build you a solid AR. Now you can build half of one for around that price haha.

Mike is right, wait for the panic to subside... I'm $350 into build #1 and $175 into build #2.. Same parts, different lowers (one was $299 one was $93)

building your own rifle is much more satisfying then going out and buying one. The AR platform is stupid simple to build and with the right parts can easily be assembled in less then an hour.

Can't wait to see the finished products. Still waiting on my lower to come in, hoping to get a tracking number Monday. Then I gotta sell a few things so I can find and buy the rest of the parts.

Absolutely.. I cannot wait either but I started collecting parts to build up my '03 Cobra IRS and get it installed. Now that I have my lowers, they will be (if a new ban goes into effect) grandfathered in as pre-ban weapons.

How are the builds coming? I got my lower parts kit in a couple weeks ago but I was missing one tiny piece so I'm waiting on PSA to send it to me so I can put my lower together. Trying to sell my A2 stock and two a2 grips so I can buy either an emod stock or a magpul ctr in FDE for this build. Also want to pick up the magpul moe+ fde grip and trigger guard so I can make this build a fde colored AR. Still debating wether I should send off the stripped lower to get coated first before starting also

My plans were altered somewhat and I'm overall very happy with the outcome.

    The resulting specs:

U.S. Firearm Academy billet lower receiver
Palmetto State Armory lower parts kit
    CMMG fire control group
    European Aerospace upper receiver
    Spike's Tactical upper parts kit
Colt 14.5" barrel, 1/7 twist, extended A2 flash hider
    Colt BCG
    ATAC charging handle
    Magpul MOE stock
    Magpul handguard
A.R.M.S. #71L rear flip up sight

Built for about 1,000 with "better than your average commercial spec" AR parts.

    Second build under way!!

Looks good forward to the next build. Got my lower the other day, don't know if you saw it on facebook. I just like a few more parts and I will have it finished, hope to have it all bought and put together by February.

Gonna look good when you're done. I am waiting on a gas block to finish up a build for a friend. He ordered everything but they somehow didn't get the gas block on the order but it will be here Thursday. He will have close to a grand in just the upper, the two expensive items being the Daniel Defense handguard and a WOA 16" barrel with matching bolt.
