I've owned many bikes over the years. Sportbikes? Check. Harley's? Check. Foreign V-Twins? Check.
My last bike was a 2004 Honda VTX 1300C. I put about $3000 in performance and appearance mods into that bike. Absolutely LOVED it more than any Harley I had ever ridden. Mostly because in the summer, I wouldn't get my friggin legs cooked! Shaft drive is relatively maintenance free and the sport shocks and forksprings I installed on it made it that much more of a nice ride. Since I have a small depression in my skull that needed protection, I wore a half-lid helmet and used a windscreen at all times. Now a days, that area has rebuilt itself, but back then, I had to be more careful.
Eventually, the doctors made me give up riding motorcycles and I lost my endorsement after I couldn't completely improve my balance to "normal". If you ride and ride a lot, then you know the deal with that what I'm about to say. Even though I *knew* I didn't need to be on two wheels any more, it was something I simply would not give up. I got to the point where I was only riding on my best days and I couldn't plan to ride with a group or with friends. I just had to call them up on those days when I could ride. But I was PISSED when the Doc threatened to take away my license completely if I didn't stop riding. So I grudgingly sold the bike and renewed my license without the MC endorsement.
That was in 2008. My VTX1300 had over 28k on her. It was a good run. But now when I look back, I wonder just what the hell was I thinking.
Here's a video I made when I had it up for sale. Damn I miss that bike. Custom ground cams, custom head work, electric water pump, awesome seats....I miss everything about that bike!
