I know the difference between a shaker 500 and shaker 1000 setup, regarding the amps and speakers. But what about the head unit?

Is the head unit the same on all stereo setups? basic with no amps, 500, and 1000?

I'm working on a '06 base Mustang that has what looks like the standard head unit, but has no amps nor front door subs. Is the head unit the same as say a shaker 500 head unit?

No all three head units are different from each other, if you want to upgrade the head unit it is better to go aftermarket. Plus I always had problems with my shaker, that's why I upgraded mine lol

The HU's are different as for the plugs. Obviously the 500 and 1000 have more plugs.

But you should be able to use the 500 and 1000 HU in a base stereo car. You just wont be using the Shaker part of it.
