OK,

Kind of a hybrid tech/pimpin thread...need some expert help and opinions.

I'm not a big fan of billet under the hood or its price...but I want to dress it up a bit here and there.

I am looking at painting the radiator front and rear covers, the fuse box cover, intercooler overflow tank, radiator overflow tank cover (black part) and power steering reservoir (top black part) with spray paint.

1. Is there a paint that will bond to plastic, that can withstand underhood temps. They sell paint for this at AZone for the bonds to plastic part, but not sure it will hold up to the underhood temps...or even what the underhood temps get up to. Guessed at 250-300ish??

2. Do you think this is a good idea...why or why not....

3. What color would you go with to offset or compliment the Dark Candy Apple Red car color? I was thinking a Dark Red or Dark blue.

I plan on custom painting the S/C intake and valve covers at a later point.

thanks, I was going to have the covers and S/C lid done later professionally.

Did you have an opinion on doing this at all...and what color?
Well since you are going to paint them I would do a red and black scheme.
and I would have the Valve covers done in sparkle red powder coat.

I like the Radiator covers painted th esame colr as the car, I put a SS cover on my fuse box
and dressed up the engine with SS braided hoses and lines.

Nice bay..

I have the steeda CAI with the big Blue air filter, so I should probably go with the blue. It would also kind of work with my red white and blue theme I started and haven't decided how to finish.

There is also the option of yellow, since the COPs are yellow and it would work out pretty good I think...but yellow is not my favorite color..blue is.

I'm doing so photoshop work to my engine picture...if it looks decent I'll post it and see what you guys think.

How would one go about getting paint that is the same color of my car (meaning specifically vapor metallic (zy))?

Maybe ask a good body shop in your area? Perhaps they could take some white high temp paint and tint it to match? Don't know if it could actually be done that way.

http://www.paintscratch.com/

they will mix the paint and send it too you even in spray form

You would have to clean the plastic real well,
use Plastic Primer Paint (3) coats
then use 2 thick coats of high temp primer paint (500 deg)
then paint with the matching spray paint from paint scratch
then use High Temp Clear Coat (500 deg)
the 500 Deg high temp primer and clear coats are avalable at the auto parts store.
this "sandwhich" will protect the auto paint

for the plastic parts on the front of the car, you will only need the Plastic Primer
and the Auto paint from color scratch since auto paint can take temps of 225 deg.
oh and make sure you don't let the 3rd coat of plastic primer dry completely spray the
auto paint on, first coat light and then normal coats after that, no more than 4 coats and
use 1500 or 2000 wet dry sandpaper (wet sand in between coats)
