Unused coolant passage above the oil cooler lines?

there's this square coolant passage on the side of the 5.4L GT500 block right above the two round channels that attach to the oil cooler & filter adapter

once the filter adapter is installed, it doesn't quite seal this passage, and doesn't leave enough room behind to bolt a blocking plate and/or anything else to make use of it..

the workshop manuals and part diagrams all show the same passage, but neither show anything attaching to it.

any ideas?

If you are not using that coolant passage , then where are you running your lower rad. hose to ?

On the 07+ Shelby, the thermostat housing is a hub for 5 coolant lines..the lower rad hose is one of them

I also forgot to update my first post, but the passage in question is indeed unused on the shelby.. It has a freeze plug deep inside.

The passage is used on other cars with the 5.4L block where an elbow bolts up to it
